For me at least the adaptive cruise control keeps accelerating at the wrong times so I stopped using it.

One nice thing about it I havent seen mentioned is in a manual truck you can downshift without the cruise kicking off. If I'm in normal cruise mode as soon as I touch the clutch cruise its shuts off.

Same as my old 22 corolla, I like it alot for long drives on the trans canada hwy. I also find in normal cruise (which I never use unless the sensor is covered in snow) I can't set the speed higher as fast. With radar on I can set it from 90 to 110 as fast as I can flick the switch up. With normal mode I have to do it slower.

I actually love using it. I wish you could use it under 28 or 32mpg? Can't remember what the minimum is. Yes it brakes randomly abruptly, but if I tap the gas it'll override it, but keep it on.

The slowness required to up the speed in normal cruise drives me nuts. I actually prefer regular cruise but that part of it is super annoying. No idea why it’s like that.

I wonder if on the pre-radar trucks (2017 and older), if it lets them up the set speed quickly or not since that’s the only cruise mode they have.

    I enjoy it too!

But only on highway with non-congested traffic.

If there's too much traffic and the system is constantly picking up on close traffic, I tap the brake, keep the system on until traffic breaks up.

For me, it's only good when traffic keeps its distance...and dummies aren't cutting me off.

I too enjoy using the adaptive cc. I work evenings and use it nightly on my commute home. I like it for longer drives without a ton of traffic. I tend to be a set it and forget it type driver. The only downside is that sometimes I forget its on and don't realize it has slowed down considerably because of the vehicle in front of me.

I dislike the dynamic cruise control. On mine, it uses the brakes to slow down. IMO the brakes are for emergencies, only.

    Wow!

You really set it and forget it! lol

I keep an eye on my dashboard to see if the radar picks up on vehicles in front of me.

I go back and forth on the different levels of distance...1-2-3 bars.

After installing aftermarket vintage grill/garnish, I'm constantly activating DRCC/LDA on highway trips to make sure the radar/system is working properly.

This, of course, is exactly the same way it works with cruise off. Downshifting does not illuminate the brake lights; engaging the physical brakes does. We shouldn't expect cruise to work differently. Someone else said they thought the cruise implementation did not comply with safety regulations, but it does. Specifically, it complies with NHTSA's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). Any vehicle sold new in the US must comply with FMVSS. I don't know the details for Canada but I know it's similar.

Do not go to Colorado ... or Arizona. We have some roads that have "minor ditches" to the right or left that might make you a little timid ...

    Lol...
Obviously not the road anyone should be using any type of cruise control on.

All jokes aside ... Colorado and Arizona have enough roads your Tacoma can handle that have stunning views.

Brake lights DO light up...I had a mattress in my bed and when the cruise would slow it lit up the mattress....

I prefer to use the constant speed cruise control over radar because radar leaves too much space AND brakes way to hard....
To use constant speed just hold in the cruise button for like 3 seconds when you turn it on. Your truck will maintain a speed no matter what until...
BEEP BEEP BEEP collision alert and auto braking...not to be tested!
I was so happy to discover the "normal" cruise control was an option

SO much better. I get way better MPG with the constant speed cruise control and if the car in front of me is slowing I can just tap back on the arm and glide and then push it up to resume.
Speed up? Tap up....slow down...tap down...

I'll use radar cruise on state highways with 50mph speed limits so I don't speed and maintain a reasonable distance from the car in front of me. It definitely engine brakes on these types of roads.

Yeah, we have a Subaru and it gives you a quick "beep/chime" when the car in front of you is slowing you down....and then a double chime when it's out of your way or no longer slowing you. I really like that...
The Toyota just displays the vehicle in front of you as 'detected' if you the dash display set to show cruise distance. I wish it had an audible or more visual indicator that the car in front of you is a slow poke...

Yeah...but as long as you have lane departure warning on and your adaptive cruise set to 35+mph you're good.

As I was adjusting to DRCC and its braking prompts, I began to experiment with the radar range button, 1-2-3 bars.

Early on, I discovered when drivers overtake/cut into my lane at close range, the radar would react quickly/abruptly at 3 bars.

    Definitely, not a fun experience!

By decreasing the range (1 bar) the DRCC would not react like it did when 3 bars were set.

The concept being, closer range (1 bar) was more tolerable than longer range (3 bars) in delaying the braking from DRCC.

This takes some time to get use to and I've adapted my highway driving to this method.
