I'm very happy with it. You could design a system with more flexibility yourself...if you wanted to, but this does everything I've needed so far.

I played with my iPhone a bit last night and got this shot. We sure don’t see stars like this in the big city!
For some reason, TW downscales the photo, the original is much more stunning.

Pioneer: synonym for failure. Here’s their special feature “everything disappears and disconnects while you are driving at a crucial point where you need to turn.” Three units in three years, hot garbage. I’m trying Sony next.

Very nice, that’s a lot of stars!

I was upset I couldn’t get better photos last night but I found out the low atmosphere haze near me is wildfire smoke. So I guess I should be somewhat thankful I haven’t had to really deal with that problem yet other than it blocking my stars.

kenwood or alpine are the only way to go

I put a OEM one (2020 w/ CarPlay) in a my 2019 tundra and when I was on my trip around the south east, randomly my phone would disconnect and CarPlay would disappear - usually at a super convenient time like when you were supposed to take an exit soon. I stopped at a harbor freight and pulled out my headunit in the parking lot. The stupid USB plug adapter was jiggling just enough over bumps to cause it to disconnect. I wrapped it in some electrical tape so it couldn't move and its been fine ever since.

When using Android Auto my OEM head unit has severe issues when I put it in reverse. Like if I am out exploring and I have to turn around, once I put it back in drive I just reboot it right away instead of dealing with all the issues.

I'm surprised after the two failures you went back for a third try, a techy like you should know better.

im guessing they were warranty replacements so you either take the free replacement or fork out the cash for something different

Perhaps, but there has been a fair amount of updates and versions released of Android Auto since I got my truck and it's been doing this since the beginning. I would rather fork out the money on a new head unit than switch to iPhone.

IIRC Adam paid for at least one replacement.

There are timing marks on the inside of the actuator to know what position to start 2 of the gears at.

This video shows what I'm dealing with.

The fun part will be holding it all steady, upside down, trying to line up the teeth while reassmbling.

Yes, unfortunately it had no impact. I was so excited to see there was an update I thought for sure it would fix my issues

The symptoms you describe happen to me even on wireless CarPlay. Unfortunately my efforts to wrap the wireless signals in tape have failed thus far.

Sony’s newer ES series are supposed to be the hotness right now. That’s likely going to be my spring 2025 project.

    Well…

I paid for the last one. Was on the road last year and BestBuy had one of the same model in stock. Store was closing in an hour so it was either a) waste a day and stay there until the car audio bay opened for re-wiring a harness, or b) buy the same damn shitty unit and plug & play in the parking lot so I could continue onwards. I’m a slow learner but had no downtime.
