youre talking about the sound deadening matting attached to the inside of the hood, no, sr5's dont come with that....
youre correct inregards to what I heard when I drove the offroad, on acell from a stop on take-off, noisy....
Probably nothing more than the ESE as stated, but it really stood-out to me.
Im not knocking the offroads, just the ESE...
I truly thought they all had it...

It's a simple thing to turn off with the Carista app. Along with the seat belt chime.

Why is it there to begin with? Tacoma never came with a V8 that made vroom vroom noise, I can't belive any one ever said they want more engine sound in the cabin. Some of the same trucks with the engine noise, also have the underhood sound insulator and acoustic glass. Covering up real sound only to pipe in fake sound. This makes no sense at all. Yes it is a good thing it can be turned off. Off should be the default setting and the engine noise should be turned on for those who want it.

When HD diesel pick ups go hybrid and become quieter are manufacturers going to add diesel sounds?

Im all about leaving things alone....
But your response has no logic & is outright dumb....
Hes strictly trying to make his truck less noisy by turning off the engine sound getting pumped into the cab of the truck through his stereo speakers....
He's not trying to make his vehicle faster........
    Hence your "civic" comment....

I bought a Carrista to turn off the middle seat belt chime specifically, and the engine sound enhancement if my SR5 had it - I, like others stated, couldn't necessarily hear it, but "fake" engine noise just seems absurd, so if it was there, I wanted to turn it off.
My SR5 with the upgrade and cold weather package (with the JBL) did have the option to turn that off, plus another option to turn off noise blocking (can't remember what that was called now in the app, sorry), so I turned off both at the same time. I also turned off the drivers seat belt chime, and the middle seat chime in the backseat. Left the others alone.

I can hear more of the engine and all the noises that it makes, and its not the most pleasant sounding 4 cylinder engine. Maybe the noise blocking portion did some good, and may try turning that back on just to test it.

    Good to know.....
All I know is when I drove the TRD O/R, it was definetely louder than my sr5 upgrade / coldweather, like you mentioned...

It's called Active Noise Reduction. It makes things quieter. Things like background tire noise... You may want to turn that feature on.
