DIY track mount install until aftermarket options pick up for 4th gen …. Missed my expedition essentials rail from 3rd gen. Bought an 8” composite RAM tough track and mounted to radio access panel.

Obviously, this isn’t feasible with 14” display owners; however, this is one specific reason I opted away from 14” display.

I've been waiting for some company to release something similar to this that uses the mounting screws below that trim section.

The 14" screen has the same or very similar trim piece there. So I think it would work.

Just curious… But you opted away from a bigger display in order to use a track mount to mount your smaller phone too. Honestly the 4th gen made an amazing interior design. With a thoughtful wireless charging place for your phone. Just imo … I would always pick the bigger display.

I echo your feedback. The 4th gen interior is amazing. I do not have wireless charging in mine nor did I want that feature as well. Often I would have incompatible phone cases that would prevent the Qi charger from working in any reasonable state in my 3rd gen. Overall, I simply am not a fan of the large screens in vehicles but that’s just a matter of preference. In my own use case, I benefit more from the ability to mount further accessories (phone, action camera, radio, etc) to this area of the dash. Waiting on a more refined option from a reputable aftermarket manufacturer but for now I think the standard 8” touch track looks pretty clean for what it is.

The third gen QI was useless. I had a 23 and it did not work with my mag safe apple charger. The 24 however is stronger and works fantastic. I totally see the value for using a mount for anything other than a phone to your point like a radio and others.

in my case with wireless charging and wireless apple car play and a digital key. It’s super clean to just set my phone in its charge spot. No wires no keys. My trailer and camper keys go in the door basket and my house already has a digital lock. I even use an apple magsafe wallet. Just carry a license and debit card. I hate bulky pockets so the less I have the better :)

I dont know why the dumb thing doesnt beep or say something when you leave your phone on it. I'm constantly sitting down at a restaurant and realizing my stupid pitch black phone is still sitting on the Qi Charger in my truck. I hate it. And that space has been rendered completely useless for anything else. I love this truck but the dumb slow Qi charger is garbage.

I added my own wireless charger to the truck. I didn't get the premium. I hate it. It's so slow, and just like you mentioned, I leave the black phone on the black charger in the black interior all the time and then get confused why I can't find it. For the past 30 years, I've just been plugging cell phones in. I'm too geezerly to change habits so back to the cable for me.

I forget my phone constantly too. And the wireless charging seems like it would work better if the truck wasnt constantly using the GPS from the phone. Like if it only used the GPS when you were using the Navigation. Maybe its a Carplay thing idk but I rarely use navigation and dont even keep the map on my screen.

It's like it doesnt actually charge the phone, only keeps the phone from dying, but its because of the GPS being used. And then if youre on a call, using gps, keep alive charging, and using the bluetooth at the same time , the phone gets really hot and sometimes (once) got so hot it shut off.

On the 4th gen I use my phone as a digital key. So if the phone is in the truck i can’t lock it as it is key still in vehicle. Additionally i work in IT and literally always need my phone on me. So I rarely forget it.
