Fog and RR Diff come on with the headlights.
The other one (400w/100w), only when pushed.

In that case, I think I have a burned out bulb or loose wire.

Are the under dash fuses good? Best to check with a DVM. If you have no meter, maybe just change the fuse for the dash lights and see if they work.

I haven't checked yet, but I hope that's the case. Anything is better than working under the dash.

The backlighting is all powered by the TAIL Fuse, if your tail lights work it isn't the fuse.

I just replaced the two small bulbs in my climate control assembly and now have illumination of those dials, fwiw.

Tail lights work so it's not a fuse then.

Climate control dials light up fine. Only the buttons on the left aren't lighting.

The Fog and RR Diff switches on my '14 Tacoma do not have lights. Wish they did though, along with the 4H-4L selector switch.

They should. The bulbs are threaded into a brown plastic screw plug on the side of the switches. I swapped the stock bulb in the plug when mine died for a 3mm led and added a resistor to match the color and brightness of my other non stock switches.

Did you pop the switch out to change the bulbs or is dashboard surgery required?

The switches pop out on the 2nd gen. I was able to remove the cubby/fuse box door under the switches and reach up and pop the traction control and side curtain switches out from the back. I used a plastic trim remover tool to remove the fog lamp switch from the front. With the exception of the inverter selector switch, any others installed should be backlit. (rear diff-lock, traction control, side curtain air-bag defeat, etc.) Mine (2014) were all out when I got it.

    No dash disassembly surgery needed.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Odds of having lighted buttons just increased.

I have the Fog Lamp switch on the top row and Stability Control Off and RSCA switches on the bottom row. They are nice and bright with a new bulbs in them and they dim with the rest of the dash. Mentioned earlier was the inverter selection switch which is not back lit, but does have selection indicator lamps.

Bonus info: If you have an automatic, the center console selector is back-lit, even though the selection is also duplicated on the speedometer face as well. I drove my truck for almost two years before I found this out.(here on TW)

You can pop them out but the upper ones are a bit harder to do than the lower row. It doesn’t really take that long to pull the necessary panels, just 5 minutes or so. Door sill, dead pedal, kick panel, and lower dash panel with the last only complicated by the hood release. Once the lower panel is out of the way you can pop the switches.

I think I'm going to duct tape a Mag light to the steering column.

Thanks for this. My fog button light has been out for months and has been bugging me.

Is this true for 2008 fog and clutch bypass switches? I have no light on any of them.
