nothing tragic, figured I would warn you lol.

Basically a glitch that happens when you play with door lock settings and lock beep volume. It apparently tickles the ecu and toggles off the “wireless transmitting” setting and leaves your fobs useless for lock unlock until that setting is turned back on again requiring techstream or Carista. the smart key system still works though.

A bug that hasn’t been addressed

I have a bluetooth OBD2 reader for android, and the Autel can read codes I think. If you need either of those.

I don't have Carista, I do have the bonus pack extra sensor stuff for a 2020 tacoma on Torque (I think that's the app), if that helps a 4runner :spy:

I appreciate it! But I already ordered Carista after seeing how easily it connects to a 24 runner. Should also work on my 19 Tacoma. To be continued…..

Ok, I have heard about it. I don’t like being tickled either, so I don’t work correctly after being tickled either, well I guess the where the tickle is really depends…

Carista did the trick! Changed a bunch of other stuff while I was in there and molested the Tacoma while I was at it. If you or anyone else wants anything on this list changed hit me up before I cancel the subscription after the first month. Here’s the 3rd gen Tacoma list

If I stand up on my little workbench/kitchen counter/stepladder I can just about do text over http for a couple hours a day before the traffic patterns shift and they change cell panels for the day.

Been up here a few days getting work done. I'll shoot some pics when I get home tomorrow or the next. Took a walk along the future 4x4 tracks this evening after I knocked off work on the squat- gonna be a niiiiiiice wheeling circuit.

It's probably seasonal. Leaves are full of water which block signals. I don't do a lot of ham radio but i know I can TX and RX further in the winters around here without all the leaves.

Nah, it's literally the network operator switching panels off and on/adjusting the RSSI to account for daily traffic patterns, but what you are saying is also a thing. Water is the enemy of RF - absorption and reflection from water dense (vegetation, surface water, hell even fog and clouds) is a major culprit for multipathing interference, which on a digital system means a lower indicated strength even if all the trons are actually there, as opposed to an analog signal which would (as a matter of illustration) come through loud/unreadable.

Hello. Bigass dumperoo, feast your eyes and. for those of you beaming in via Inmarsat, RIP your data budget.

I've written about the spot before, had the dirt wizard in, etcetera.

I just spent a few days down there flooring the field tent and burning up a woodpile I don't want to move as I expand the campsite.

Day 1 I got busting unloading the truck, organizing materials and tools, and a surprise visit from my partner. We had a camp dinner - hamburger steaks, veg, and polenta. The dogs went nuts and I felt bad that they had to be leashed. Put them out on longass lead (95% of a busted synthetic winch line, most expensive leash ever) and they got, as expected, hopelessly tangled. The nice lady and doggies went home and I chilled.

    End of progress, day 1:
    20241006_135438.jpg 20241006_155206.jpg

Day 2 started with coffee, polenta, and getting the camp stew (mushrooms, black beans, onion, garlic, polenta nuggets) going on the far corner of the griddle. I've been making it a habit to clear brush around the campsite and keep the pile burning steadily all day while I'm there, simply to clear it.
    20241006_155221.jpg

Day 2, framing of the floor, critter gitter, and the first section of decking.

I got the floor started and once I confirmed everything was still square enough, I made some adjustments to the sleepers and did one section of the floor with joist hangers, made a test cut, made a second confirmatory test cut and fitting, and then batched out most of the joist cuts. I smacked out some more hangers, and got the first section of decking down but not fastened, because I desperately wanted to sleep on it rather than the dense-pack and my worn out backpacking mattress.
    20241006_155247.jpg

I laid 1/4" welded-then-galvanized hardware cloth and fastened it to the framing. The mesh is laid such that there are "tabs" on the outside edges so I can wrap them up and fasten them to the decking and then install outside sections, encapsulating the foam and keeping out Mickey and the gang.
    20241007_131639.jpg 20241007_133431.jpg

And here's end of Day 2, I managed to get down most of the framing, and get a credible start on the decking During all of this there is a lot of screwing with the tent frame - adjusting the feet, adjusting the tension, screwing with the eye bolts etc - I'll talk about that whole process as well as the final touches on my next trip, inshallah this weekend. Here's how it sat, with one end more or less done framing and the ends closed in with a nice fresh 2x6 PT board flush with the decking.
    20241007_135439.jpg

Wood pile I didn't want to move getting pretty low. This was actually quite a nice pile of split dry birch that my brother and I laid in when we were first burning in the campsite, starting with the little Dakota firehole I dug in on my first night on the property, dropping trees, clearing brush, and stacking up a little ring of softball sized stones we found as we grubbed the circle out.
    20241007_155639.jpg

I burned up some more of it finishing the camp stew and burned more for warmth as I wore out a headlamp on a weird old book.

Day 3 I made my coffee and decided to walk the trails while I drank it and waited for the hardware store to open. I knew before I went to bed I was critically, stupidly short of hardware cloth, because I had calculated for the whole roll and forgot I used some on the house. FFFFFFFFFF.
    20241007_163654.jpg 20241007_163724.jpg
    20241007_163830.jpg

I found the back line of the property as I was walking the trails. There's a huge stone wall like this around three sides of the property. This was nice pasture when Vermont was still mostly naked, and the wall has survived decades and decades and decades in thick woods.
    20241007_164029.jpg 20241007_164151.jpg

The trails make a cool shape through the terrain, with two forks at major terrain features. Half the property is crossed by these and the other half is a tiny tiny wet valley that I'm leaving alone, because I like it a lot, and the ridge on the other side is too steep to mess with.

    20241007_164326.jpg 20241007_164511.jpg

Camp stew and coffee (still had time to kill).
    20241008_072820.jpg

Took off on an entirely too complicated and time consuming quest for 1/4" hardware cloth. Here's a shot from the drive out of the spot:
    20241008_075946.jpg

Geography and local custom were against me. At one of the spots, some other poor sod was also looking for the stuff - he had 5 out of 6 of the comically small and overpriced 5 foot rolls in his hands. When he saw I was looking for the same stuff, he offered to let me have some, saying he could do without if he had to. I foolishly, foolishly told him no sir, go right ahead (no way am I going to pay that much for these stupid rolls! I'll go to the next place and find a proper job sized roll for way less).

Alas, I did not. I hit four spots in two hours of driving before settling on the little fuckers for the same price four stops away, having found nothing else and wanting to get the shit done today.

Anyway, I paid the idiot tax and actually did it.

    20241008_152430.jpg

I haven't put the 2x6s on the sides yet, all of the screwing around with the tent frame to get it well and proper set on the floor assembly ate a LOT of time, and I needed to get home to take care of some stuff this week. I had ALMOST exactly enough of the magic tape I used to air seal the foam board ("blue board", 1" styrofoam stuff) before I put down the decking to run a bead across the gap between the decking and the end boards on each side. The ends are closed and the cover is secured enough to sit there until I go back to finish it up, flash everything, etc. Gotta keep an eye out at the remnants places to find some kind of linoleum or something for the floor. Might even be able to get the tension wires onto the frame, and some internal foam slapped in, with a bunch more of that magic tape.

Cleaned up the campsite, leaving myself an absolute fucking mess in the container (sorry, future me, we both know I needed to do it this way), and went home.
