Okay guys... brakes. I need em soon. I've been very happy with the OEMs, just turned 74,000 miles on them. I haven't priced out OEM parts yet, but wanted to see what you guys are running when you replace them. I have 16" wheels and no interest in going to the T4R big brake replacement setup at this time and I'm keeping the drums on the rear.

I've been happy with EBC for my cars in the past. I put PowerStop on my F150, but didn't have it long enough after replacing them to give them a review.

I know you boys have experience and opinions. Let's hear em.

Ok let it fly guys :crapstorm:

The last set I'm running now, I got off Amazon
the set before I got off am-autoparts, $65 + free shipping for rotors & ceramic oem style pads.

Was & am very happy with both sets.

    I'll hire a four-piece jazz quartet.

    Ye

The Lakota still make money off the admission tickets and such, soo..... Who knows. Big conflict of interest in that whole area. But at the same time absolutely stunning area and 100,000% recommend

Came here to post this. :D

If I remember correctly, the EBC green stuff grab really hard at the beginning, but fade quicker than the factory pads. Overall, the OEM pads and rotors are pretty solid. Although if your rotors aren't destroyed with hot spots or anything, you can have them turned for much cheaper/free than buying new ones.

Stay away from drilled and slotted. That is just a gimmick

I went big boy conversion and 35's. Took a LOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time to get good, but they are both worth the price of admission. Just say'in. Used Adams post for the parts. Might be re-creatable in small size too.

They have their applications. The added heat dissipation is helpful on the track. For street applications I'll lean towards agreeing.

Have you ever watched cheese Go through a cheese grater?

That's what drilled and slotted rotors do to your pads.

    Now

When you look at a double rotor, there are fins between the two plates... When those fins are angled correctly, then the rotor has Superior cooling quality. If the fins are straight up and down, then the rotor has mediocre cooling capacity. This plays a huge role in the rotor's ability to absorb and dissipate heat and thus stay effective.

Much more so than drilled and slotted does.

That being said, in high-end applications with super ceramic composite brakes that Ferrari uses, etc, yes, there are certain methods of drilling and sliding that work supremely well. For anything any of us can afford for our tacos, it's not worth it. You would be better off spending the money on a big break upgrade of sorts.

For Tacoma applications unless your truck weighs 7,000lbs or designed for long travel jumping and whoops desert running then completely unnecessary. OEM rotors and pads or equivalent. I specifically got Akebono pads from RockAuto to save a couple bucks because Akebono and/or Advics make the Toyota OEM TRD pads.

I’m too lazy to go back and quote other posts re: Crazy Horse but there’s as much truths as bad info out there. Controversial project maybe, but if I could go back in time sure as hell I’d be against Mt Rushmore. All I can say is the museum attached to Crazy Horse is the real attraction and anyone visiting should read all the signs and stories because it’s super cool history stuff.

Anyways now for some pictures while I have service. Went down into a cave and guess what, the rain tried to follow me there too. My magnetism for unconventional weather lives on!

    IMG_7985.jpg

Heck they need rain badly out here so I’m not even mad. But I did get rained on down deep in Jewel Cave. It’s cool I need a shower badly anyways.

    IMG_7992.jpg

Heck I could just drive around in circles and have fun here. SD is a beautiful state. Off to find camp somewhere now and plan tomorrow’s adventures.

    IMG_7974.jpg

Thanks everyone who went to Bayfield for sharing pictures, looks like you had a good time and some great scenery! And Tyler too of course, always great seeing your photos!

No, cheese is much softer than brake pads. They do not deform into the drilled holes or slots. If that were the case, pads would not last 50k miles. The holes and slots give more surface area for the rotors to shed heat.

Have you ever been involved in racing? My guess is no.

I did the same as I was very happy with both the performance and longevity of the stock brakes.

Does the actuator rod move in and out easily? I don't think that motor has much oomph. Not sure without taking a hard look at it but is the clock spring part of a torque limiting clutch? It would make sense to keep the motor from burning out.

Akebono pads worked great on my 01 OR and is what I plan on installing soon up front. What brand is everyone using for shoes in back?

I wonder how hard it would be to make a manual shift linkage to replace the actuator. Surprised nobody has made a kit.
