Trust me, when I say that I want to give Trail.taco the chance to make this right. I wouldn’t even have posted what I did earlier if he had just responded to my PM. I realize this is probably a side business, I realize he may have other things on his plate, but at this moment he hasn’t responded and definitely don’t want anyone else on here thinking they are gonna get a quality product.
Hope you get your axle situation squared away.

In the 3rd week of awaiting a resolution to my issue with this business. :( Paid with Venmo so no buyer protection and at the mercy of the OP but, for the good of this community I spend a lot of time with, also want future buyers to be ware. Happy to edit/remove this post when I get something even remotely close to the low-mile 3rd gen CV that was advertised or the resolution through LKQ that was promised.

    What I bought:

Exactly. I’ve had great experiences purchasing stuff from people on here and this is the first time I’m ever had a negative experience.

Yes, this image shows damage to these same seals on the pair of Gen3 CV shafts I purchased from him about a month ago. He knows the problem and I also agreed to pay him via Venmo but no response from him. The shafts themselves seem fine and the boots are.

I thought I could source these seals but I cannot claim those I have found feature the metal guard you see in this image. At least I have not been able to find them yet because the images of the seals I have seen so far don't show a clear distinction between the seal and what it's bonded to. It appears these seals are included with reman shafts.

Well crap. I came here to buy an axle but it looks like I’m going to have to go somewhere else. :annoyed:

Go to LKQparts.com and order CV's. That's all he was doing. You'll find they're half the price of what he was charging.

Honestly, the ad was misleading on some levels. I thought I was buying from a stand-up Tacoma World member and supporting his side hustle. It should be clear (to moderators, too) that he is not in possession of the items he's selling here and has no control of what's being shipped out. Because he's the middleman, it gets complicated when you contact LKQ about their warranty.

Lack of responses has me escalating this as much as I can.

Exactly. One of my better sources over the years has been www.car-parts.com.

I thought the part number was 90304-A0001, but I'm not sure. I found this thread and I'm more confused. CVJ has some 90304-A0001 for sale on eBay that are listed as compatible with 3rd Gen Tacomas. https://www.ebay.com/itm/294906626001

Probably best to look for Tacoma specific advice even though they should be the same on 4runners and Tacomas.

Regardless of part number, I'm fairly sure the seal includes the metal shield. This seal and the knuckle seal are designed to interface together to keep dust out.

90304-A0001 looks similar to the seal mounted on one of the inner CV joints so this is promising. I called CVJ to discuss this with them because they are 2 hours behind EST. Note CVJ clearly states this is not the OE seal. No matter for me because it's sufficient for them. I find 90316-A0001 on Toyota parts websites.
Additionally, after more time I am becoming convinced there is an additional seal mounted at the differential but this seems unsettling and difficult to accept in the absence of real knowledge. It seems best for me to refer anyone to this thread I posted last evening.

I thought I was only one. I bought a pair and both look beat for what they were. First one leaked and had to use the other to replace it.
    Definitely don’t go this route.

I have been watching this thread because he was selling at $150, low miles and 6 mo warranty. Pretty good deal if all true.

I had shopped around to six different wrecking yards near me in CA and they all sell their used axles for $75 + tax. Most had a warranty of 30 days. I found one with mileage of about 40k but most of them were about 80 to 150k miles.
