When you switch to gas from flux core, you'll wonder why you didn't do it before. Flux core welding is better than nothing but it makes for some ugly welds.

The titles around here change often to reflect the current times. However for those interested there is a welding thread.

That's an ash. Looks just like the hundreds of dead ash trees you see me post here as I cut them down.

If that was oak? someone would have stolen it already.

I don't know about the whole stealing it thing is they would have to drive into the middle of a golf course to do it. It was easy to tell it was a Ash and destroyed by the beatles because of all the trail marks up and down under the bark from the beatles doing their damage

If I can remember I'll post a picture of an ash tree just as talll, not far from where this one fell down, that is trying to come back

Yeah I've got several that we are saving.

We treat them every year & as long as we treat them...... They will survive. Its costs nothing as its the same treatment we use for all the trees that we do on our place.

Litearlly several hundred of them dead on my small hobby farm & we have cut down half of them.
We leave the ones in the woods standing so they don't rot so fast, then grab them for firewood for whoever heats with it. Big mofo's....

My favorite logger: Timberkutterpatriot calls them widowmakers. Love that dudes vids.

I'm pretty sure I'm correct about this. The treatment only works for so long. After the tree gets to a certain size it is no longer effective.

You could be I'm no tree expert.

What size would that be? The biggest one we are treating is over 2' diameter. The rest are saplings up to 18". We started several saplings just so they would have some fresh ones eventually.

We are still treating with Merrit WP75. Is there another alternative?

Reached out to work, and offered up my B7100 for clearing up at the facility.
Got a response saying that they are going to utilize us equipment operators and would be using contractors equipment, and they will contact me when they have a timeline.
Promising for getting back to work.

Even though you worked a week, are you still in the payroll?

You didn't quit and you didn't get fired, so you must still be able to get paid. I'm not judging, just curious how the employer is going to help the help.

I know it's shallow of me, but I gotta know how the big ass fan faired?

They have paid us for this week and next. But everyone is eligible for DUA Disaster Unemployment Assistance with the state because of the national disaster issuance.

Did some playing today with the excavator. Trying out some new tricks watched on the net.

I'm a blade to the front when digging guy unless I'm trying to dig back up underneath me. Tried the digging to the rear, just didn't like the feel of it.

Guessing most of that was just that I've got a toy mini vs a great big machine with oodles of power to weight.

Also knocked a big dead ash down today. This one had broken off about 40' up & was near 3' dia at the bottom.
Usually I put the FEL up against them with a little pressure, set the brakes & then make my cuts.

Today I thought id give the mini ex a try. So trammed over to it & stuck the arm out & up & put the bucket against it curled. Added a little pressure from the tracks & dug the blade in. This put my contact point at about 14' up the tree.
Then I uncurled the bucket shoving the tree with bucket force which on my machine is right at 5K of breakout force.

Not sure how that translates to actual pressure vs the FEL on the tractor which only reaches about 9' up..... But that baby went right over. Broke off right at the ground. Will still have to cut up the trunk cause its way to big to pick up.
Neighbor wants it, so some sawing will still happen on Monday after the wife is back at work.

This left me with the stump to get out. Even though its right on the edge of where I hog, figured it was a nice day & the mini was already in use. Easiest stump I've done in a long time. It was so bad that it came out in big chunks in just a couple minutes! Back filled & drug. Cleaned up the mini & called it a fun outing.

I've got one of those. Good little machine for what it is. I have about $800 in it with the gas bottle. It alone was $330 for the first bottle o_O

    Nope
About ready to pull the deck. One more mow I think and it comes off.
Makes it easier to install the blower when it’s on.

Mowed yesterday first time since before the storms, only got 2 yards done man it was thick with crabgrass. Weed eating this morning over here by the house and a long what's left of the creek bank then mow. Might have to do it once more before I service and store for the winter.
Had to use the tractor Saturday, someone apparently went bow hunting but didn't care they lost their waste on the road to the dump. To keep the coyotes away I scooped up the remains and deposited them to the transfer station.
By the way they really didn't know how to clean the meat off the bones, there was a lot left on em.
