Use a baggie for catching the spring in your IHS.

    20241008_104204.jpg

This is something I picked up from rebuilding manual hubs.

Funny when you read about people losing their IHS spring because they took it apart only for the spring to fly into oblivion

    With our powers combined

    20241008_110042.jpg

Need to cut the small bolts here to retrieve a back up lead screw and motor; socket cap screws got stripped trying to remove the coupler so I pulled out the whole lead screw and motor assembly

I felt like Predator removing the head of his prey with a spine attached

I'd love to come up with a replacement Z axis assembly running linear rails instead of those eccentric bearings

    20241008_112539.jpg

    20241008_112543.jpg

Not to mention use something else for coupling with the lead screw since it uses a cheap plastic threaded setup that strips easily

    20241008_111934.jpg

Guess a sort of limit switch could be used in lieu of the "spring" setup for IHS? Then how does one figure out springback from there?

I knew I should've gone to school when I got accepted to go :bananadead:

That and I need a mill....

Be pretty easy to put that on a carrier with sulfer bronze bushings... but less serviceable too. Doubt it would help the accuracy in any meaningful way considering it's just torch height rail, not a Z axis that takes load like a mill would have.

I drove 4 hours (2 there 2 back) to the only shop who had it in stock so that I could ride an event I had that weekend. That sucked.

I think it was a combination of both the AZ sun and my own stupidity. The cluster bezel crack started at the top right switch blank, where high school me squeezed an aftermarket switch into, safe to assume that caused that crack. It was a bit of a press-fit lol. Radio bezel cracked during one of the many times I've taken it off, probably pulled too hard and it had just gotten a bit too brittle over time.

Once I get the new bezel its getting blanks put back in and the switches moved.. somewhere

Well it does use screws to mount it in, maybe they could also be used to keep it from popping off
