Looks super familiar. :) Mine is a '10. I have 16" alloys sitting at home and will be installing 265/75's before winter.

Here is a shot of the corner of my hood heading to a mine looking out at Joshua Tree National Park.
    IMG_8050 - Version 2.jpg

One of many cool places to camp in the Dale mining district.
    IMG_8003.jpg

Leaving and decided to take a shot of the missing left rear flap I tore off during that trip. This ended up being the last shot of the tailgate before it was debadged and all the flaps were removed. -I found the missing flap on the next trip out!
    IMG_8022.jpg

Most recent trip out in the dale mining district with the clean debadged look and the new stubby. Really windy in the morning so the truck was our wind break. I haul the oversized Tent Cots on the rack.
    IMG_8045 - Version 2.jpg

Dang. Someone already filed a federal claim (marker on the right). Huge outcroppings of quartz in the hill to the front of the truck. We were exploring roads I never traveled before and aren't on our GPS map.

I was heading south on gold crown coming down out of the hills when I shot that. The pucker-factor goes up a bit around the bend in that photo. I love it out there. Lots of places to explore. I started exploring the Dale mining district back in 2003 with a stock '99 4x4 Durango. Thank goodness for skid plates.

This season I'm visiting all the old spots in a stock 4x4 Tacoma -and getting much better gas mileage. :) I usually take 62 past 29 Palms and enter the Dale area from the north. Sometimes we head towards Amboy & the crater. We pull off the road and stay out there several days exploring before we head back to civilization.

All these years and I've only headed out into JT park the last couple trips. Too many rules. ;) We camp in the mining district and now I use the park as a shortcut to get back home. I can't believe how much the desert towns along 62 have grown.

My buddy's and I used to camp on the south side of those mountains back in the late 80's inside what is now the park boundary. In fact, I think our camp site was probably on the far side of that hill just left of center in your photo...back when it was just a national monument it wasn't such a big deal. I know that road well...We would always take it from the south as we would set up our camp near gold crown and dale mecca (I think that's the name). We had old school toyota trucks, 2WD that made many trips over that road - no problem! I know what you mean about the pucker factor...when I was out 2 years ago it was the first off road trip for my taco - I ended up turning back cause I was by myself, it was late, and I had no camping gear or food. I have since learned that my truck is more than capable! I heard they were filling in the old mine shafts in that area...is that true?
