New Issue Dealer Claims Head (Media Computer) is bad part

Hi Everyone,

My Taco has just 25,000 miles on it. It is a Covid car and I didn't go anywhere for over a year. This truck is a lease and the lease is up next month. Should I keep the truck? I sure want to, but not if problems might continue. My only other option is a 2024 new gen truck.

I had a previous strange issue on this truck where I lost brakes and car seemed to be trying to park itself. Took it to the dealer and they could not find a thing.

In the past month or so, the media computer keeps going from home page to menu page. Especially in the morning. Dealer wants to replace the 'head' - the media computer and Toyota has said they will pay for it.

I have been planning on buying out the car, now I have a bad part that costs 3,000.00 to repair. Should I be worried about the rest of the truck? Or should I go for the new gen truck. I really don't know what to do.

Any input is welcome here, I honestly don't know what to do. Thanks

 

It will be fine, but have it inspected by an independent shop before you make a final decision, there may be issues they arent sharing.

My big big advice is, do not return the lease, finance it and buy it out. The residual is massive on Tacoma and it never makes sense to give them the keys back.

Buy it, sell it, do something, but do not return the lease.

 

Actually it seems to me there are dozens of other options. You're painting yourself into a corner for no reason

 

What about the option of getting an extended warranty if it is still on the factory warranty?

Hi Everyone, You all make some good points - It would just crush me to return it, its a 3 year old truck with only 25000 miles....they would make too much money on it. But more than that the Tacoma is a great car for me, I live quite rural and enjoy being more rural and I am really looking forward to a bed cap and traveling more. Perhaps even a small RV. It's hard for me to consider a smaller car - I have driven smaller cars all my life and the Tacoma style has been my dream car for a while. The idea of having an independent shop evaluate it before I put money down is a good one...and I thank @Bishop84 for that.

To Clearwater Bill, what options do you suggest? Are you thinking a different car? A different brand of truck..what options come to mind for you...I am open to ideas here.

To 23MGM, yes, in a parking lot, I tried to stop the car, the brakes went to the floor and the truck kept moving, had to turn it off to stop it. its written out and explained in the previous post in my profile. Now if I could only find that post I would be glad to repost in...can anyone help with directions on finding my previous posts?

23 mgm, the challenge with the truck trying to park itself is that I did not ask it to...I had pulled into a parking spot.
