I have a 2016 Super White Sport with bad peeling and after I called my local dealership with a collision center I took the truck to be inspected which lasted a whole 2 minutes. the manager told me he had 15+ White Tacoma's waiting to be painted which his painters are itching for but he has not gotten any supplies or instructions from Toyota. I called their main hotline and spoke to someone for about 30 minutes who said they would inquire further on why the dealership is not able to work on them. That was last week haven't gotten any word back but the collision center manager told me that they would repaint the entire cab from the bed forward to the hood which was different from what I was told on the phone it would only be window areas but I have the paint peeling around my headlights, above my windshield, around both driver and passenger side front and rear windows, and some other misc. spots. Anyone know if they are going to fix those non-speicified areas as well?

I’d be interested to know if Toyota will cover areas of the bed that are peeling as well. Fortunately it’s a small area on mine, but has started spreading. It’s peeling just like the other areas they acknowledged, so I would expect them to cover this as well.

Here is a copy of my letter. It only mentions along the exterior window door frames and front inner fender edges under the hood.

Received the letter for one of our two 2017 work trucks last week. I noticed I got the letter directly instead of only it being sent to the official registered address for our company that owns it; my guess being because I took it in last year and had it photo inspected and documented previously at a Toyota Collision Center for this exact issue. Have another appointment for this week to bring it in again, hopefully the previous documentation visit helps show how much worse it's gotten since then.

I think I had photos of the truck already in this thread before back in late 2023, but the issue has definitely gotten worse since then

Door window sills and back edges are the most obvious places, which already showed wear but the peeling continues to spread, albeit slowed down somewhat with me adding some clear coat touch up over affected areas. All four doors show one of both of these areas of peeling. Definitely per the areas of issue the letter describes.
    IMG_4828.HEIC.jpg

Peeling also happening under the hood on the side pieces both sides. Definitely per the areas of issue the letter describes.
    IMG_4830.HEIC.jpg

New area of peeling has shown up on the cab behind the edges of the front fender panels near corners of the windscreen. Not sure if this is described by letter or not though since it's not in example photos it provides.
    IMG_4831.HEIC.jpg

Also peeling starting to show on front of the bedside panels. Pretty minor still but it's also showing here on our second work truck too.
    IMG_4833.HEIC.jpg

It's very minor and hard to see, but I'm pretty sure the two thinning spots like this underneath the windshield side of the hood are on the way to peeling soon, as this is what I initially saw in other areas as well before the visible peeling and flaking started in full.

People that received this letter, what plant was your Tacoma manufactured at? Curious as it mentions "a specific manufacturing facility". Interesting they didn't say a "single" location. Its almost like they want you to assume a single location but don't actual say it. I have a 2023 so I'm hopeful that mine won't be affected but I also don't have confidence that it won't be expanded.

My 2017 DC has paint peeling on the window frames that is identical to that in the posted letter. I saw all of the issues people were having when I read it here over a year ago. I just figured I was SOL but I logged in just now for the first time in forever to write about my poor truck hitting an elk and saw this. I haven't recieved a letter but once I get the elk fur off my truck and the front end fixed I suppose I'll look into the paint fix!

Do you know where your truck was built? I have a 2014 that doesn't have this problem (yet), but i have seen it on two MY-14 examples. My truck is an early production year build in Texas, unknown where the other two were assembled.

Received a new letter 2 days ago, pretty much a copy of the first plus this extra part to put in back of the manual.

I got my new letter yesterday. I got an appointment for the initial inspection for this morning. The truck has been at the dealership for 4.5 hours so far with no updates yet. My vin starts with 3 so it's a Mexico truck I believe. I'll update with what they tell me.

Toyota inspected the truck today and approved repairs. Now they’re waiting on the estimate from their body shop to get final approval. Once they get that they’ll give me an appointment to get it painted. I was told they’d provide a rental car for me while it’s being painted. So far so good….fingers crossed.

Nothing yet. I don’t have any paperwork or documentation from the inspection. I’ll update once I have more info.

For those who have received letters ONLY, are we supposed to go to the dealer for an inspection/repairs on our own?
I have a dealer local that would be somewhat convenient. Just asking what the process is like.
Second question, has anyone with peeling paint had their truck repaired by Toyota yet? I want to know what to expect. Are they removing doors/fenders to repaint?

Yes I would call the dealer, they are aware. Looks like they have the go ahead to start repairs.

    Enough for now
My truck is getting the paint fixed tomorrow under warranty. Will send photos once it’s done. Only the rear windows and under the hood are being done, I was hoping for the whole truck LOL

I haven't gotten a letter. My 2019 is not peeling yet, but there are a couple pretty big chips and scratches that I need to get touch up paint on. It was built in Texas.

I just dropped it off for paint this morning. They're only fixing the areas around the windows and under the hood. They said it should take about 2 days for the repair and I was given a rental car while they have it. I'll post pics once it's done.

    Yes
Truck is getting painted November 11th. My local dealer said they are only painting the 4 doors and both front fenders even though the clear coat has faded on the roof and hood looks terrible.

Anyone else been told the same?
