My first time going 100MPH on a motorcycle would have been late ‘70s. Yes that long ago. Bike was a ‘78 Triumph Bonneville T140V. Man I loved that bike. Pretty quick for a twin and great handling. I’d occasionally take off the mufflers and run it TT style. Got pulled over by an Ohio SHP and after a short lecture he let me go. I think my Mom being a deputy clerk in the town municipal court probably helped. That was the end of my faux TT days.

    1) 1981 Kawasaki GPZ-750 with a 900 kit and other work. First bike I owned, I'd traded even up my 1974 Dodge Challenger for it. I was 24 or 25 at the time. Road was a long straightaway where locals used to drag race. I had no business owning this bike and not enough skill so I guess God looks after idiots and fools after all.

    2) Gen 3 Yamaha FJR1300 of course

    3) I'd have to say sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Speed limits aren't all that high but on a weekday afternoon with clear skies the views and the road are just perfect.

    4) Probably some RAM mount stuff or a tank bag

    5) I could just cop out and play the FJR1300 card again but......if it's my final ride for the rest of my time on earth....I'd want to go back to something like my first ever ride at all like an old Honda Trail 70 or something just to relive that childhood thrill that started my love affair with bikes.

For #5 I'm kind of surprised you didn't say the Buell, you always speak so fondly of it when you get to take it out.

Nice! Actual motorcycle content. Like the FJR. Was looking at one today. A ‘21 ES model at the Honda shop. About 15K miles asking $15K.
    Edit: corrected year model

I gave that some thought. Honestly the more I give it thought I'd really like 10 bikes x 10 miles each. Given only one I think revisiting something that first gave me that taste that lead to a lifelong obsession made the most sense.

So, @T-Rex266 , have you put any of the parts on the CB500X yet?

No, I should soon next time I get some free time. I’ve ridden it around the block a few times, but riding season is about done here

Yeah, weather is creeping up. Hoping to get one or two more days before it's just too cold. The parts will be good winter projects.

Don't develop any bad habits riding before your class! :p

It's a tough choice so I'd go multiple bikes too.

Also would like to ride some from the past, one being a Honda SL 350. My dad had one that he got from my uncle and I remember riding it in the trails a few times.

This guy has a bunch of vintage motorcycles advertised on craigslist and a few nice looking 350s. I spoke with him and thought about checking them out, he has 4 and asking $4-5k each. None have titles though, and then I think about adding a third bike and there's others I'd choose first but would like to get one eventually...

I looked at the FB ad. In pics 2 and 23 there is a yellow CB400F that he lists as a 1976 but that's actually a 1977 same as my red one. Those are a nice choice for a vintage Honda that you might actually want to ride. No titles is a PITA with living in PA and I'd never touch one. Let someone else do the legwork first. You'll have to come visit sometime, you can try mine and the Buell if you want.

speaking of Buell's...don't know a lot personally. My bud here in Indy picked up this 2008 earlier this summer and is having a blast. Hasn't touched his 2016 K1300s since. Put eyes on it this week, pretty cool. Dig the fairing.

Nice I see the 400, looks better in red like yours. And agreed I wouldn't get one without a title it's not worth the hassle. He also sounds like a no bs kinda guy, so not gonna waste his time if I'm not serious.

I'll take you up on that! We need to plan a ride soon, leaf peeping season is getting into swing...

ive always been so 50/50 with those ones. they have a cool look minus the odd intake that looks like a idk a tumor or something? it just doesnt blend with it sadly at least to me.

seen them a lot in person and always thought they looked neat if you could only remove the goofy looking intakes

Those last years right before Buell got shut down were definitely the best bikes performance wise. I have more of a soft spot for the early, hand built units that in some years had fewer than 125 units made. Pretty much any 600cc Japanese sportbike would eat them for lunch but there was just something cool about them with their rough around the edges finish.
