    Hello all,

Hooking up a light bar, got everything together and I am stuck on the switch placement. The aftermarket switch I ordered does not fit in the OEM spot that is right under the cubby hole on the left side of the steering wheel (problem #1 because its a rocker switch). The cable that came with the light bar connects to the light bar wire harness and then to the switch (problem #2 is the aftermarket switch has 5 prongs on the back). Everything that I have seen online that will fit in the OEM spot is a 4 wire/different connections. I don't know a damn thing about wiring, I got this whole setup cause it was a plug and play, which it is minus the aftermarket switch doesn't fit in the OEM spot.

I don't want to Dremel out the stock panel to make it fit, and I can't find a aftermarket panel to replace the little cubby hole that the switch will fit into. Anyone else run into this before?

Not sure if the Guild option supports a rocker.

    https://guildoutfitters.com/collections/base-switch-panels-taco

MESO does if you can wait for the next round.

ABC makes rockers that fit the small blanks, then you just have wiring:

CH4x4 makes a dual push button option:

I think AirOnBoard has the doubles as well but not sure?

Here are some pics. The top white part is what connects to the rest of the wire harness, and the other end of it is what connects to the 5 prong switch. I am stumped on what other switch will connect.

I truly hope your battery is disconnected before you try to wire this up. I think you need to do more research before completing this. You definitely need to add more information like what exact switch and what exact light bar/wiring kit you have going on.

Yes, battery is disconnected. I have a complete circuit with the setup I have. Only problem is the switch wont seat in the OEM slot inside of the truck. For that to happen I would have to Dremel/trim stock panel, which I don't want to do. Find an aftermarket panel that replaces the cubby hole spot, haven't found one yet to fit the aftermarket rocker switch. Or get a OEM size switch, which I run into wiring problems going from the light bar set up of 3 wires, to a OEM switch (like the ones mentioned above) that have a 4 wire setup. I attached a circuit pic of my current setup I just hooked up.

I have a feeling I may be over thinking the 3 to 4 wiring situation on a OEM switch, and it can be done. I just haven't figured that out yet.

I found a video of a 3 wire harness to a 4 wire OEM switch (green, 2 red, black). You just tape off one of the red wires because all it does is light the switch up when you turn on your headlights. I am fine with not having that, only time I want the switch lit up is when the light bar is on. So in theory its a pretty easy fix, just need to order a OEM size switch now.

Guild has switch illumination harnesses for the cargo connector. That covers parking lights and PWM negative.

you want a 5 wire switch. The ch4x4 dual would work, bright (light bar on) trumps backlight.

I’d bet good money that black is ground, red is light bar on, white is backlight on.

ABC rocker would be my pick. I have some of them. If you want to send to me I can connect it up and add the switch illumination.

It’s not complicated and you only have 3 wires to deal with. Pretty straightforward.

I also went with Guild, getting a full replacement for more switches. I loved the fact they have a harness for plug and play. Still have to do the rest of the connections yourself, but helped cut down on some work.

I ended up just getting an OEM switch off Amazon. So while I wait for the new switch to show up, found out my current/new setup with the 5 prong switch will still switch on even with the truck off. Guessing I need an add-a-fuse or something to that nature? Don't want to that switch getting kicked on accidently (I know you should notice the light, but in the middle of the day its possible to miss it).

I dremeled 2 switches in my tacoma as long as you are careful you will never be able to tell and if you do mess up you can always order another switch panel. It really isn't a big deal you are causing yourself way more heartburn than it really is. It took me less than 5 minutes to get them fitted and you would never know looking at my switch panel. Even if you get a different switch that "fits" your may end up doing a little trimming any way.
