For those who think of NC as the beaches where the Wright Brothers flew their airplane and snow-free forests in the east ... Asheville gets real proper winter. Not quite North Dakota but "no power" will be a problem very soon.

I was looking for local charities to donate directly to as opposed to going through an intermediary

Update: Henderson county has asked not to have physical donations sent in but need financial donations for housing and other related services.
Asheville has reconnected the 36" water line to the system yesterday. But still have a lot of work to do to get it all back up and running. Sediment is an issue with the reservoir, with the cooler temperatures it won't sink and they will need to add a substance to it to make it cling together and sink to clear up the water. Today at my house it's 35 degrees. Folks that have lost their homes or severely damaged homes are in serious need winter is coming. I have seen more military vehicles on the road and in areas of need. Not just troops but bigger equipment for help.
Thank you for all your help and prayers.

Isn't that buggy built on the Chevy Colorado platform? Looks like a fun toy.

That's chilly as hell. Are you able to use the fireplace, I hope?

A good friend of mine is out there now doing SAR with his reserve SF unit. Still pretty hairy in a lot of places up the mountain.

I did look it up and yes on the Chevy Colorado base.
We are good where I'm at, thanks for asking. We were spared this time. But the other side of the mountain not so much. I'm close to Marshall and Hot Springs which took a hard hit.
Tell em thank you for their help.

I'm back to work now! As far as Asheville they are getting water restored there's water flowing through the pipes. Not all is restored but it's getting better. Lots still without power or water, and many without a home. Some are unable to get out because there's no road or bridges. If you want to help we need to start thinking about the coming winter this morning it's 36 at my house and it's even colder farther north and higher up.
Things are getting better but it's still a long way for everyone to be out of the woods.
Thank you so much for your help and prayers and support. From everyone in WNC

As of Monday November 18, 2024 Asheville has potable water :D. Still a long way to go with recovery in the WNC areas but we mountain folk are strong.

It's been a couple of weeks since I posted here.
It's been cold IMG_20241206_061204615.jpg today is no different it's 14 again. Please keep WNC in your thoughts and prayers, as many are still in tents and waiting for the FEMA trailers to get set up and distributed.
Next week we get rain which doesn't help.
Thank you for your support and prayers.
