far cheaper to just replace the boot not whole axle. if its an oem axle you have it would also be a downgrade if replacing with a parts store axle.

Extended bump stops will keep the tire away from top of the wheel well at the expense of less suspension travel. A small ~1/2” top hat spacer would move the shock down and regain that travel. This is just an idea. I have not tried it.

One might want to combine this with lower the preload to straighten out the cv axles and gain a bit of downtravel. I think it would take some careful testing to get it all setup decent.

To answer your question, yes. You can in a pinch use gasket maker to seal a smallish hole. The boot is there to keep the grease in your joint. Any hole will let grease out. So in a pinch anything to stop the grease leaving the boot will do. Duct tape works like a champ, plastic bags and duct tape... Use your imagination. But remember it's a temporary fix, a bandaid if you will, to get you home and then replace the boot.

Your picture doesn't really help in determining if a temp fix will get you a couple more days. How long as that gash been there? How much grease is left in the joint? How much as already flung out as you drive around? If you have grease in it still, and say you need to drive 10 miles to a garage to swap it out, go for it.

That seems like an awful lot of droop for standard 5100s alone, even at full drop my stock UCAs wouldn't come that close to my 6112s+ 3/8 top spacer.

It's very obvious that I'm near the articulation limits of the CV, brake and ABS lines when full droop, so I can only imagine your setup which is droops further then mine straining those components.

Share a photo of your CV angle with the vehicle on the ground.

That's what I'm wondering, that looks like an awful lot of droop for the stock components and diff height, If true and it's not my eyes playing tricks on me, i could see components being strained when going over potholes, speed bumps and stuff tugging on the CV boot, abs and brake lines.

its not 5100s alone. very first sentence in this thread is that he has 3" spacer lift stacked on top of the 5100s

I interpreted that as they had 3 inch block lift in the rear? But it also wasn't very specific so it's possible that's a 3 inch spacer puck.

The best thing to do to test is to put in 4wd while on a lift and listen to that CV bind

can kinda see it in the pics he posted. a 5100 alone would not cause this. they are only slightly longer than stock. with the 3" spacer this is straight up front end torture lololo

Yeah, I'm at the absolute limits of my stock front end with the 6112 and a 3/8 spacer, can only imagine a 3" on there, would cause CV binding and wreck the lines and cables.

Op needs to set the 5100 higher and get smaller spacers...

what setting are your 5100's on? you can get 2 inches of lift with them alone and if you also have 3 in the spacer thats a 5 inch lift.
