My only real complaint about the Tacoma Trailhunter is the lack of secure storage anywhere in/on the vehicle. I initially considered a Decked drawer system, but the whole idea of removing / inverting the air compressor controls in order to use them does not seem appealing. So, what is everyone else using for their everyday storage needs? A Pelican cargo case secured in the bed? I am looking for suggestions.

Decked told me their system was compatible with TH (Models YT9 and YT10) for the rear inverter/compressor. Is that not the case?

I’ve owned a number of full size trucks and also a 3rd gen Tacoma and I can’t say that any of the trucks have really offered good ‘secure’ storage systems other than some mediocre space behind the back seats. Buying a hybrid will certainly plug that up lol.

I intend to get a decked system myself. Hauling a quad right now for a couple months and the geometry of the fit wont allow the tailgate to close if I have the decked in so I need to wait. I had one in my last half ton and it was a phenomenal product

Based on my communications with Decked, the YT10 system is compatible with the Trailhunter and other 4th Gen Tacomas, but the system blocks the compressor door. This is how Decked wants you to remedy that issue:

"Please visit Page 32 of the installation manual of the YT10 Drawer System (link below). We have extremely in-depth instructions on how to mitigate the issue of a blocked compressor door. Let us know if you have any further inquiries. Thanks. Link to Installation Manual YT10 (See Pg. 32)"

While not complicated instructions, it's just not something I'm willing to do to my compressor door. I'm hoping that their next model will 'actually' accommodate the power outlets.

upload_2024-10-3_7-22-45.png I’m considering getting this swing out bed box that is quickly removable. I don’t need a ton of storage plus this fits under my tonneau.

Do you know if the boxes lock? Unfortunately, with the Trailhunter's ARB chase rack, I cannot use a tonneau cover. I will check it out.

    Thanks for sharing that, interesting.
I think I’d be inclined to give it a go modifying the decked system rather than that, first. I wont be getting the decked setup until after Oct 31, but when I do install it, I will provide an update.

Honestly, if I was willing to remove the ARB chase rack, I would most likely get a Diamondback HD.

I love the sport bar because it’s what makes it a TH visually. I spent over a month trying to decide what to do. Almost did the decked option to keep the bar (and was going to extend/complete it using the OEM ARB components), but I use the bed so much. I toss crap in there nonstop. Clothes, bags, take-out, gear, kids sports stuff, etc. And the drawer is not enough real estate for me. Too shallow. And I don’t want to be always tying things down. I just decided I’ll need to pull it off which is a bummer.

I have the TH and need some lockable bed storage since the Truck offers none. Am considering the pelican BX135 cargo case with cross-bed mounts as well. Can you share some pictures once mounted and let me know if the case fits near the back of the bed with the ARB sports rack, I noticed it might fit with the small opening of the railing.

Have a hybrid non th model, with the arb sport bar and 5 foot bed. Tried the decked system… not super impressed with it. Wayyy too much space taken up for mediocre storage. It can’t fit a fully packed osprey atmos pack, and condensation is too common to trust anything remotely moisture sensitive. Additionally the decked system is waaaaay too slippery to use anything in the bed without tie downs. (A 16 lb box of cat litter jumped the tailgate on the first test after install) My response? Take off the silly sport bar (ymmv, but not useful for much even kayak storage)- and get the tonneau that best fits your needs.

Yes the Lid itself has a lock.
And the box itself towards the hinge has a lock spot too.

    Far to much money spent.
Tried to order this from Toyota was told there is a stop orders on all of these boxes, and refunded my money almost as soon as i ordered it.

In defense of the decked and your adventurous cat litter, generally should be strapping something down if you dont have what amounts to generally 12-14” ‘box’ or deck sides in most jurisdictions. Also must be pinning it pretty good to send that over the edge lol.

I’ve had the decked in my last truck (1/2 ton dodge) and it was phenomenal, its clean storage, remains dust free, and I washed my ATV on top of it all the time in the box and did not get any condensation inside the drawers. They claim its dry and no running water, and it certainly is, but if you are running in to concerns about moisture sensitive items, it doesn’t matter what method you choose, tonneau cover or whatever else, you’re going to need secondary containment for it.

Bought the Pelican BX135 and the cross bed mount for my 5’ TH, planning to keep the ARB sports rack. Will post pictures once mounted.

If you can afford to lose some rear seating the 60% goosegear rear seat delete really opens things up.

Entirely fair on improperly securing my cargo, a moment of not thinking as much as one should have. I was driving pretty reasonably, just got on an incline and physics do what physics do. Hell of a lesson; but not as bad as it could have been.
