Hi All, I'll be changing the oil in my truck for the first time myself this weekend(Toyota care ended). I've bought the change kit, filter, oil, and fumoto valve. I've read and watched the videos. Changed oil in all my previous trucks but I know the 3rd gen is a little different.

Anything I might have missed and should consider? Thank you!

Motivx wrench to remove the filter housing ... if you want to wait a short bit ... https://www.motivxtools.com

Get the oil warm to flow freely. Be sure you get the big filter housing O-ring in the correct slot ... it is possible to have it on the housing not fall off but not seal properly.

I mean no offense with the O-ring warning ... just install the filter housing may dislodge ring if not fully seated. Oil coat the ring a little to prevent dislodging.

Why the fumoto valve? I'd just get the motivx assembly, and a ratcheting wrench for it.

You seem to have it all covered. O ring placement is good advice.
Make sure old oil pan drain plug gasket is not stuck to pan.
Basically the only thing different than other vehicle oil changes is that the filter is in a housing rather than a 1 piece unit.
    You probably know that though.
    Enjoy the process.
I actually find changing oil and doing maintenance therapeutic.

The valve opens with a lever to control outflow. Attach a tube to direct oil flow exactly where you want, maybe. Allows taking small samples or drain excess oil if needed. Replaces the standard bolt-plug.

Getting the o-ring in the proper position is probably the biggest difference from other oil changes/oil filters. After the housing starts threading on, the o-ring -really- gets squeezed. ( So make sure the o-ring stays in the slot. ) Once the o-ring is in, the resistance goes way up. Keep turning until you feel the housing seat, metal-to-metal. At this point - you can either snug it ‘by feel’ (using your years of experience) or torque it by the book.

Either way, I don’t think the filter housing would ever come off on its own, with how tight the o-ring is getting squeezed. And you definitely don’t need to crank down on it like a traditional oil filter that seals on the face.

    IMHO YMMV TGIF

This is good to know. I was not aware the o ring was different.

Drain pan/container. Don't get the cheap one: you'll have it for a long time and you don't want one that can't hold at least 6 qts and leaks through the vent, drain cap or the center disc when it's time to take it to recycle the oil

Traditional oil filters seal on the face. Loosen just a little and they can leak or dump all your oil.

The Toyota filter housing is a cylinder seal. The entire housing would have to unscrew all the way out before it started to leak. I think you’ll see that that is not too likely. Still need to tighten the center drain plug properly.

Make sure you are removing the engine drain plug not the automatic transmission plug.
It happens sometimes on the first service -- most folks don't do it twice however. ;)

To add to this, the oil is going to come out fast as fuck and splash everywhere if you aren't careful.

Only have to deal with that once tho if you are adding a drain valve.
