Broke my filter wrench mid oil change today. At work. During lunch. But at least the powerstroke has fresh oil. Feeling like I'm an Idaho redneck in the city with this shit lol

 

I'll never know why everyone insists on overtightening oil filters. 3/4 of a turn after contact is plenty. Lube the o ring too.

Always hand tight. And the Toyota filters come with o-rings that are pre-lubed.

 

I work VERY close by. Been trying to arrange after work beers there... I'll let you know how it goes. Not leaving town this weekend so maybe I'll find time for a scouting mission

I do all my oil changes, you e met me, I don't think I have much in the way of over torquing it... I think it's a combination of the wrong tool and too long on the block issue. For one I used my 1/2" strap wrench, which is fine for the Toyota but too small for the size of the filter on there PS. filter holds nearly 2 qts of oil on its own! And the too long issue... Last oil change I was in a rush to move to NM. Didn't find a filter in time and figured going on the same filter for 6k miles would t be the worst thing... So I think she is seized good to the block. Not happy about it going 3 rounds of oil but I think it'll survive and I'll have a better wrench next time. I was out of options, block drained, on my lunch break in the work parking lot.... Couldn't stab it with a screw driver and make the mess to get it off just pour new oil in and call it a lunch.

 

I hope it's like Peaceful then. Playing that episode 24/7 on every TV

 

That would be amazing wouldn't it. Although, noodles are hard to beat.

Ten minutes from home I went for a hike. It kicked my ass. 2k of elevation... At 8k feet where the air is thin....worth it though. Found the wreckage of TWA 260 that crashed some 70 years ago.

 

Nice! Always love hiking to those wrecks. Find any engines or much recognizable? Is that a wing there?

 

Tires, engines, parts of the fuselage and the tail are still there. There might be more further off the trail that we didn't see. It slammed into a cliff, so parts went everywhere.

 

Looks like beautiful fall color and weather too!

 

It was great! Air was getting thin over 7k feet though, slowed me down a bit. But damnit if Venice isn't a fucking trooper. Getting close to ten and yet has no problem doing these big hikes.

Our Vet gave Ollie pain killers as she said he was in pain, even though we didn't think so. holy shit what a difference. It's like he's 8 again. Super playful. Trotting around everywhere. Running up stairs. Wild. Anyways, just shows you might not notice it as much or think it's a big deal, but it is. This was for arthritis. Obviously Ollie has 4 years on Venice so not like she's there. But at her size I'd bet she develops it sooner than later.

It's due west basically. Evening before sunset it's visible with naked eye. It's huge.

 

Cool. It'll be on the list to do tonight. I was too tired last night even had I known about it... I was in bed by 7, that hike sucked the energy out of me. Venice and I are quite stiff today, boy I'm out of shape!
