Weird Vibration

Have had a weird vibration coming from somewhere along the drive train. I've checked the joints and all seem well in tact with no signs of badness. The funny thing is, as soon as I push in the cluth the vibrations go away. It only happens when Im on the throttle. Cant really pinpoint it without being under the vehcile while its running to really get a good idea. Any help or suguestions from someone who has had this problem or knows about it would be helpfull. im having the same thing as you man... i was thinking the tires mabey or the drivetrain itself. it only happends when accelerating right? and around what speeds. i have a 5 lug 4banger

 

Usually around 25 and then stops, and picks back up again around 50 or so. Stops when I press in the clutch though.

 

i had the same prob with one of my fleet trucks. this is what i did tried seafoam through vac line, check wheel weights and re-tightened all bolts that mount up trans, engine and transfer case a few were loose but the prob was wheel weights

I've been experiencing the exact same vibrations under acceleration in any gear. Seems to be worse in 5th than the others, especially at lower RPM's. I thought that maybe some of the trans. mounts might be loose because the shifter seems to move around and vibrate a lot. Planning to get under it this weekend.

 

Over the course of several weeks I developed bad vibration on acceleration until it was undriveable. The vibration went away when coasting so I knew it wasn't the tires. I dropped it off at the dealer last night. By 9 this morning they replaced the front u joint. The truck is now smoother than when I bought it, couldn't be happier. And it was no charge, covered under warranty. 2006, 4 cyl, 5 lug, auto.

 

The problem described sounds like the one that I had in 2007 with my new Taco. I had a vibration that I felt was somewhere in the drive train, but could not nail it down. Finally, after a couple of trips to the dealer I got the head mechanic to go for a drive with me - him driving. He detected the vibration almost right away. We took the Taco back to the dealers shop where they trouble shot it for several hours. Finally, they replaced the original drive shaft with a new one and the vibration disappeared. IIRC a recall notice came out about that time that addressed this issue.

weird. Mine vibrates only when idling at a red light in gear. If i pop it in neutral, it's smooth. i sea foamed it through vacuum line, changed the spark plugs, and got an oil change. The dealer says my water pump has a leak but I doubt that would affect the vibe.

 

I had a weird shaking too a while back. Turned out to be the rear bell housing froze up on one of my breaks. Shaking like a mother in 5th on the highway. But I have a 2001 with 267K on it so that is too be expected that something may go wrong after 250k Yours is newer but have someone look at the rear breaks and see if that may be an issue.

 

I have the same problem... Shakes at idle in gear, shakes when de-accelerating and when first starting from a light! It doesn't do this when I pop it in neutral though so it can't be brakes, can't be the drive shaft because the drive shaft still spins when in neutral and your coasting.
Seems like there are many different answers for this one problem. What should I tell the dealer?

 

ive had the same vib at around 65 mph and part of the problem was my u-joints and when i got those fixed it still did it and then i figured out it was the wheel weights, there was a bigger weight on one wheel than the other so i just switched it too the back and the one in the back had a smaller on and that seemed to work. (sorry that was probably really damn confusing but im so tired right now i dont even care but maybe it helped someone)

 

just tell them that u have a shaking problem but dont tell them anything else or where to look or they will only look there and if they dont find anything there then they will stop looking and charge u for it and im not kidding, this happened to me and i was pissed!

 

After a lot of research I found out what it was. There is a TSB for this problem it has to do with the torque converter locking mechanism or something of higher explanation, but all i know is that it deals with the torque converter... I called the dealer and they acknowledged it and matched my symptoms right away. Now just waiting on the quote for how hard the raping will be on my wallet. Oh and im out of warranty... Figures

 

I'm at the dealer now on their wifi haha... They made me take the tech for a test drive... Claims he couldn't feel stand that it's normal to have the bogging down vibration feeling when accelerating or slow accelerating... Such bull... Well we shall see what other bs they try to sell me while I'm here

 

Hey guys, I am having a similar issue. I get a weird noise/vibration when driving at all speeds but most evident at highway speeds 60+ it is not noticeable when your applying gas but once you take your foot off the accelerator and coast it immediately can be heard. It becomes even louder when you open the back window. The noise does not change if i leave the truck in gear and coast, or put it in neutral and apply some throttle the noise stays. The noise sounds like a pulsating noise like something is rubbing. The truck has aftermarket wheels and tires but they are street tires and aluminum wheels. There is no vibration in the wheel at all at any speeds. I just bought the truck maybe 3 months ago, It has 30k on it, and i personally just changed all the fluids but the front diff and replaced with

75w-90 full synthetic as well as a refresh oil and filter change. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it, thank you for your time.

 

Bryan I have the similar problem. Here is what Toyota said... After riding along with the customer we heard the noise and investigated the problem. We advised the customer the "aftermarket exhaust" was too tight causing the noise. We suggested the customer have his brakes resurfaced ( which was done only a month ago!), tires rotated and balanced.

Thats a load of bs! Guess I will be writing to Toyota corporate.... I'm gona go to another dealer first and try them, but I know it's not my tires or brakes if the problem goes away when not in gear... What a load of shit. Thank god for lemon laws...

 

WOW! That is ridiculous, yes unlike yours my noise can only be heard when i am off the accelerator, it may occur when i am accelerating but I can not hear it. I just looked over my truck and it seems there are some weights missing from rims, however I don't that is the cause. Thank you for the quick reply, let me know if you find the source of your problem.
