Thanks for all your hard work serving your community Jeff. My guy across the street is retired FPL lineman and he said the obvious- the crews out there are looking to restore power in the biggst chunks first so it looks good on paper, the sections like the other end of my street where 6 houses are without will be pretty close to dead last to get it back...

Floridians by and large are a prepared type of people. I will definitely peruse that thread I enjoy that type of thing myself. That end of the street has natural gas fed to it so a few have Generacs and never really lost power.

My personal experience has been different. If the crews are right there and the fix is not extensive and time consuming and they have the tools/replacement parts on hand then they may make the repairs quickly and not choose to come back.

On the subject of power losses, my neighbor 2 fields away used to be our lineman. So power loss was short lived. I still have a generator and have a transfer switch so not to back feed to the line.
Back in the day people would get a dryer outlet end on their generator cord a plug it in to the outlet so they had power to the whole house. I'm sure you all know that danger.:washing::nuclear:

Now here is a useful idea for cheap, dust collector boxes made of pegboard & lumber.

Some OSB added inside to reduce the interior volume and direct the dust to the vacuum port.

My dept aren’t lineman, we’re substation techs, but help when we’re needed. We definitely start at the subs and work our way out. The lineman do the big jobs, we get the small stuff. One guy in my dept worked for a week straight last year with a contract crew on 1 road getting less than 6 people back in power while the lineman did the big stuff.

We had a small storm rip through yesterday, we got called in to work on the coast. We were in Surry cutting a tree off the line at 8pm and the lead said he wanted to do 2 more tickets. Even if there’s nobody home, we want to get everyone back in lights, it just stinks when we can’t.
