I'm about to do a drain & refill after installing a transmission cooler on my 2023 TRD OR 4x4. The instructions and guides tell me to locate a plug on the curb side that uses a 24mm socket. Except on my 2023, there ain't one. Where I think the fill plug should be is this hose fitting. And the hose leads to some sort of octopus-shaped device with other hoses coming out of it.

Bottom line question: Does this fitting double as a fill plug? Thanks.

Well, I got that wrong. I'll look again in the morning. Thanks.

A reminder to let the cats cool before attempting this. I burnt my arm a bit doing the GX the other day. It’s 24mm or 15/16 and a tight fit, but a breaker bar with a shallow socket can slip between the shields. The plug has WS printed on it. It does not need to be tight just snug. It’s a knuckle buster when it lets loose, so go slow.

You also don’t need the wire on the OBD port to enter diagnostic mode. I just found this out on mine. The shifting procedure is much easier to get into temp check mode. Good luck with it.

Once I had a better look in daylight, the fill plug was right where it was supposed to be. So the drain and refill went flawlessly.

I was not able to get the OBD port wire jumper method to work. It just stubbornly kept displaying the correct gear range, even when the coolant temperature gauge reached the center. So I gave up (pun intended), sort of. I measured what drained out, which was just under 3 quarts. I had added a Toyota transmission cooler, plus the additional tubes needed. That would have added maybe 10 ounces. I refilled the transmission with 3 quarts. The amount of fluid draining (dribbling?) out the check port was about the same as it was when I checked it at operating temperature before I started the work.

As for entering diagnostic mode without the jumper wire, how do you do that? Just do the R-D-S-D-R-D-S shift procedure until the D indication stays on?
    Thanks.

My 21 does not have the pins in the OBD to jump like the earlier 3rd Gens. I assume yours is the same.

I forget which directions but ended up finding the procedure on here somewhere to check it without.

I just did this, this weekend on my '23 the directions for using the shifter worked as advertised. My xmsn was about half a quart low.

    Without using the jumper?

It doesn't work without the jumper wire.

It works without the jumper on the later year ones. My 2021 doesn’t even have the pin in one of the OBD port you are supposed to jump.

I remember specifically cause I spent a few minutes trying to jump it the first time.

Yes without using the jumper. Just shift from D to N like 10 times eventually the D disappears and you are in temp check mode.
