My wife and I went to an annual Bourbon and Brisket fundraiser. $125 per ticket gives you unlimited tastings of almost 100 bourbons, cocktails, craft beer, wine water and soft drinks along with as much brisket, chicken, pork belly, mac and cheese, cheese and meats and cookies for dessert as you can eat. 4 hours of joy. This year they had a bottle of Van Winkle Family Reserve 12 year. God, that was awesome. Can't wait for next year.

    BB1.jpg BB2.jpg BB3.jpg

Yesterday we drove up to Johnson City, NY to the liquor store where the E.H. Taylor they had at the fundraiser came from. I assumed that would be gone but hoped to score some Blanton's. No joy. Even the Buffalo Trace was gone. The did still have Eagle Rare 10 year but I've got two bottles of that already. So, I grabbed some stuff I can't get in our stores here in PA. The store does a lot of barrel selects. The Woodford Reserve is a barrel select Rye and I looked for the lowest numbered bottle of the Maker's Private Select. Not a bad haul to round out our bar selection.

Went to theState run liquor store to pervue their selections and came home with these two. I'm a newbie at the bourbon game but heard they were both good sippersPXL_20241013_155122512.jpg

One of my favorite Old Fashioneds is:

2 oz of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
1/2 oz if Organic Maple Syrup (don't use cheap stuff)
    2 drops of Chocolate Bitters
    1 expressed Orange Peel.

    Stir with ice.

I’ve been there a couple of times. Arches, Canyonlands, Colorado River, and off-roading. Awesome place!

Those two are absolute home runs. Even with my big fancy collection, I go back for the Woodford Double oak on a regular basis. It's just such an easy sipper. The really like the whole Ben Hollady lineup. Good flavor for sure. If you run across any of the Dexter offerings, honestly, it's not bad for the dollars. Also, available in stores now on regular distribution if Knob Creeks version of Bou-Rye. It's darned good, and the $$ value is way up there. For a nice $ to flavor ratio, Old Overholt bottled in bond, @ $22 is really nice.

I'm hoping to make it to Louisville at the end of the month to pick up a few bottles on my way to visit buddies in Ohio. I have some relatives in KY. Thanks for the tips. I was hoping to get to the Buffalo Trace distillery for some ER10 and JE Taylor. Maybe some Bardstown too, so much to think about.

I bought in on some single barrel new riff not too long ago for a veterans appreciation benefit.
Very darn good stuff, surprisingly a little higher proofed than I was expecting

Been saving this bottle for a special occasion. Today’s the day. We welcomed our beautiful twin girls to the world this week and brought them home from the hospital this morning. Cheers
