Didn’t notice that. I added 1/4 steel plate wherever the cage landed on my frame. Also added gussets underneath the tubes that connect to the frame.

yeah oddly was the first thing I noticed when I looked thru the pictures…lol. But otherwise the design looks good and looks like a solid design tying into the frame.

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel
Got the front LT installed the last few days along with all of the associated gusseting. Gave it a quick and dirty driveway alignment and drove over to the Overland South expo which is fortunately only a few miles away. Nothing fast to run there, but they had a built a crawling oriented competition course and had an RTI ramp. Front end definately needs to break in a bit. Zero flex from the front end, but the rear did nicely. Very happy with it for being the first time driving it in 6 months. Lots more work to do, finishing the cab cage, engine cage, fenders, and a whole list of other things, but it was a great baseline test.

Any constructive criticism on my bed cage so far?

From a practical perspective, that’s a huge bedcage. Almost looks like part of a back-halved truck, without having the back-halve. Do you plan on chopping the frame off the truck in the future?

Edit: for sure it will do the job though

Eventually that's the plan. But we're talking years and years down the road. I figured a longer bed cage would help stiffen up the rear end along with a frame boxing.

Going to hang bedsides off of that? Have you thought of what you want to do for the floor?

Yes bedsides are next. The rear of the cage is going to be a stacked dual tire carrier. I haven't had any plans to put a floor in it tho

Cool, all in good time. Stiffening up the frame in the rear is all a good plan (should box it since you have everything out of the way already). Just remember that although rear is all braced, it increases stress on that weak spot of the frame at the back of the cab, and hopefully frame flex doesn’t make that rear bar come in contact. What leaf under kit did you go with?

Yeah I totally understand. That would be quite unfortunate to see the cab and cage become one

Anyone had a CV shaft pull out from the inner stub while driving on a pretty easy/flat trail? Second trip with the kit installed, it is strapped well ahead of binding, front wasn't locked... just not sure what would have caused the issue.

maybe there's reasons for it but to me it looks like a bunch of tubes can be moved to meet at nodes.

They could. But as a first timer, I couldn't figure out how to notch a tube like that/measurements were incorrect:rofl:

You really need to figure it out. There are a bunch of tools out there to help with it. Your tubes that are at angles are pretty much what they call “dead tubes.” If they are not touching at a junction of some type they won’t carry the loads properly. Though in a bed cage it’s not as important as a roll cage.
