Driving the taco like its a sports car perhaps?
Never had drums on my coupe but a heavy foot cost me quite a bit in resurfacing and replacing rotors

Sorry, been extremely busy with classes. Only mods are OTT, sound system, and bed rack/mounts for my bikes. Even the tires are still stock! Can’t figure out what’s going on!

I consider myself a relatively gentle driver, only sees over 3k RPM maybe twice a week, if that.

List of things that can cause vibrations is extensive. I doubt its the drums. Just some ideas in my other post above

I’ll go through the list this weekend when I can get the wheels off and look at it better! I have an appt at the dealership tomorrow to see if they find anything. I’ll ask them to check the tires balance and I’ll look at the carrier bearing tonight! I’ll see if they would be open to checking for a bent axle, I don’t have much motivation to dig that deep, haha! Thank you again for all of the help!

I’d do it at home if I had the equipment and know-how! Unfortunately I possess neither

FYI when you pull the drums there is a layer of paper and double sided tape between it and the axle. Its supposed to cut down on brake chatter but makes it harder to remove. i didn't replace it when i put them back and things are still fine.
just odd seeing paper on things that can get to 400F

So, as I was driving to the dealership, the vibration completely disappeared. I stopped setting my parking brake this week thinking that maybe it was depositing material/burning in marks when I pulled it after driving. Could that have been what was causing it? Of course it stopped right while I was headed there as they now say it's operating as usual and no vibration is noted. :annoyed:

It’s going to be something that was overlooked . Drum brakes although old tech are pretty reliable and decent on the rear of a truck. They get a bad rap for no reason. Just because they are an old design . For heavier vehicles they work totally fine .

    Check build thread!
@3JOH22A might have a better idea on this but I know my parking break has caused super funky shit to occur with my truck.

OP, back off your shoes all the way using the star adjuster. Immediately drive the vehicle without backing up or using the emer brake. If it still vibrates, it's probably not the rear drums.

Drum brakes are usually very reliable and don't cause much issue. It may have been mentions already but I would suspect either the emergency brake adjusted too tight or the automatic adjusters not working correctly.

So, just got a call back from the dealership and they said that my best bet is to knock out the cheap stuff first. Going to try a $100 four tire balance and see where to go from there.

OP - I have the same issue, 2015 Tacoma. In my case after replacing the drums, shoes, and new springs the vibration goes away but eventually comes back. The vibration is the same as you described, throughout the truck but not the steering wheel. Please share what the dealership finds out.

I've seen people constantly set and release the parking brake multiple times at a stop light (nervous habit, I think). Doing this actually adjusts the parking brakes tighter and tighter, creating lots of drag and heat in the rear brakes once you start moving. If you are doing this, stop.
