The alert tone that occurs whenever the ignition key is inserted in the lock cylinder is intermittent. I can wiggle the key around and make it work in some positions. I don't care about hearing the tone, but I'm afraid I will lock my keys in the truck since the tone alert also prevents the power door locks from being activated.
Will replacing the ignition switch fix this or does it require replacing the lock cylinder. Is there a switch inside the cylinder that detects when the key is installed?

    Thanks!

A new key fixed my issue.
My old key was so worn down it wouldn't even unlock the door.
When I replaced the key with a new one. My alert came back,

And mine was just like yours, Intermittent.
Never cared to figure it out.
But then I went to unlock my door. And no good.
    New key fixed both issues.

Thanks for the quick reply and what may be great news for me. I'll try a new key before I tear into anything.
Did you buy a new key from the dealer via a key code or the VIN? Or did you have a lock smith make one somehow? Thanks, again!

I got 2 keys with the truck when I bought it.
I just used the other key.

As for a new key. Most locksmiths can make one.
The dealer want's like 1 hour labor to add the key.
Most locksmiths are a bit cheaper.

Make sure you have proof of ownership.
If you don't have the title, the registration will work.
If the truck isn't titled or registered in your name. No one will "legally" make a key.
