Yeah... the TRD OR with the Premium package I have ordered doesn't have the auto start/stop but I live in a two-light town anywho.

I'm looking forward to the extra torque and gears. My third gen's been fine... but since that I've got a new one on order, I seem to be more aware of the gear hunting, especially when towing.

@Sagebrush Totally agree. My Subie 3.6R is SUPER quick off the line. That was an adjustment when I bought the Tacoma. I agree on the towing power as well. If I were towing regularly or for work I’d probably choose something else. I love my Tacoma but I probably also fit the target use case … no backseat passengers, rare towing, light off-roading, hauling stuff in the bed. A buddy works at a Toyota dealer and he drove the new one off-road in WV and said it was awesome. TRD OR would be what I would get if I were in the market for a 4G.

I don’t have a 2024 yet, so I don’t have any idea the layout, but if auto stop start is on its own module, you might be able to pull the fuse to disable it.

That said, that’s probably not the case. knowing Toyota it’s probably ECU controlled. Considering all that, I just looked it up on a fairly expensive scantool, and it’s looks like you might be able to disable it that way. Remember, I have a scantool, not a cheap obd2 reader for DTC, and limited live data.
It would be cheaper to ask the dealer to disable it.

A disclaimer, sometimes the module, and option pops up, but Toyota locks you out without doing a reflash. I can’t tell you without being connected to your vehicle.

Perhaps a "feature" of the hybrid models?

Saving Grace for this version of Auto Start/Stop is that it only engages when you push the brake all the way to the floor. I do not disable it because I have never needed to engage the brake enough to allow the feature to shut the engine off. Perhaps if I have to stop on an extremely steep hill, it may get engaged.

My TRD Sport doesn't have it.

Is it maybe part of either option package for the non-hybrids?

It would have prevented my OR purchase. Never would have passed the test drive.

I feel your pain. I can’t stand it and also have always figured a way to permanently turn it off. Try the Carista suggestion and see if it is in their list of things to adjust. Thank goodness my sport doesn’t have it.

i believe Auto S/S is only in 2WD models - can you two both confirm you do not have 4WDs?

My TRD Sport is a 4WD and doesn't have it.

I ran across a forum post someplace else where a guy with a Limited said he did have it. He didn't say whether he had a hybrid or not, so his might have been the AWD one.

i didn't even realize the limited came in AWD, but that would make sense too - just not 4WD.

Personally, I can't understand why they wouldn't include it on all the trims. They all use the same transmission. A 4WD version in 2H is functionally the same as a 2WD with a fat guy riding along. If it was something about behavior in 4H or 4L, they could just have the software disable it in those modes. You'd think they'd want it so they can virtue signal about how they're hugging that many more trees.

My running theory was that feedback from focus groups indicated that their typical 4x4 buyer is pissed off enough by it that not having it is actually a selling point. You'd think other manufacturers would have gotten the same idea, but they didn't; my brother has a Ranger and my dad has a Colorado, both 4x4's, both with engine auto start/stop. Maybe Toyota's better at listening to their enthusiasts or something. That said, you'd think they'd bring it up somewhere in their literature if they were treating it that way. All we seem to have is a footnote in the manual about it that says "*if equipped".
