its methanol alcohol. it helps obsorb/evaporate water in fuel. i mix it with windshield washer fluid for my injection system.

It just makes the water " missable". In short, it helps the water mix with the gasoline instead of separating and dropping to the bottom of the tank.

Non ethanol fuel separates very quickly from the water, water is much heavier than gas and it settles to the bottom of the tank because of its greater density. After a while, that water level will rise above the fuel line intake. Now you are feeding straight water to the carb.

I have no issue with ethanol gasoline, the ethanol allows the gasoline and water to blend and burn.

As long as you are not storing ethinol gasoline for more than 2 years, ethanol fuel is just fine for most uses.

The vented, non sealed gas tanks are the ones that have the biggest issue with ethanol gasoline.

The tanks heats up in the daytime, then cool in the nighttime. The cooling creates a vacuum and draws in the moist nighttime air. The water in this air condenses and sinks to the bottom of your gas tank. After many cycles you are left with much water in the tank. Enough that it may be above your fuel line intake. (Not many gas tanks have the fuel line coming directly off the bottom). Now you are feeding pure water to the carb. No engine runs very good on water.

Deleted part that isn't relevant for my response.
This is interesting, I've never thought of a gas tank doing this, is this why contractors use metal gas cans that are sealed so they don't do this when in the sun all day?

That, and the EPA doesn't want those fumes being pushed to the atmosphere.

We paid for that gas, we don't want it sent out into the air where it does no good.

This is why we are seen more and more small engines with evaporative fuel systems. The gas tank is not vented like the days of our youth.

The unburnt fuel vapors are stored in a charcoal chamber. The next start up, the fuel vapors are pulled into the intake to be used for combustion. Of course I'm simplifying the procedure, but it is the general procedure.

believe my atv tank vent is causing that. it didnt run real smooth after sitting a couple weeks. ran it hard and all seemed fine. maybe ill try keeping the tank topped off to help.

All this gook came off one wiper blade when I cleaned them last night.
upload_2024-10-16_6-41-25.jpgThe drivers side had a couple small boogers on it I had to use my finger nail. Used them this morning and they were like new. Summers over and I wanted to clean all the bug guts and road grime off. Used a couple hand wipes from my tub o towels

They don't make wiper blades as good as they used to. Seems like they don't last long at all.
