they would change their wheel bearing. They would then have a new bearing. They would have probably changed it before then.

sounds like you jumped out a tree aiming for every branch on the way down with your head. Thanks for sharing.

good luck trying to make it to 500k on original bearings.
Won’t bother me my truck is armored.

Might be hard to believe since your math is way off. Try running your numbers again.

You are right. I screwed up and used inches instead of feet in my formula. It’s approximately 66,000,000 revolutions in 100000 miles. Still a mind boggling number.

I've replaced aged wheel bearings as general maintennance and been surprised at how much noticeably quiter the vehicle overall db's were.

I have had to replace wheel bearings as soon as about 40ish thousand miles, and I have had wheel bearings go the life of the car (close to 300k miles). Since I do them myself, I've always replaced "as needed" rather than following the adage of replacing both sides of the front or back at the same time.

The ONLY car/truck I never replaced a wheel bearing on was the only car I've ever bought new - a Honda Accord back in the mid-80's. My wife (now ex) totaled it before it even hit 60k (that was not why we divorced).

I'm having a wheel bearing replaced as we speak... Although, I think it was my needle bearing that was causing most of the vibes/noise. Replaced with the ECG Bushing which helped a lot but there's still a humming sound. We shall see later today if she's quiet. I'm at 100k miles.

THere's no set duration for wheel bearing life, too many variables, I do like the advise, be ready to replace them after 100K, which is spot on. I did mine at 150K and the reduction in mechanical noise was significant. I also found that the lip on one of the inner wheel bearing seals was folded over since new, I was lucky to get 150K out of it but I live in a dry climate. One thing to note, the noise increases slowly over time, it's not until they usually get pretty noisy before people replace them and that doesn't mean they won't continue to operate for a significant period after they start getting noisy. So what the yardstick? Loud whine or the wheel wobbling? That can be different depending on the owner, their hearing, stereo volume and to some extent tire size.

Ha that reminds me of one of my first cars. 67 Mustang, lower, flaired, 4 speed converted ...P.O.S. beater! Front wheel bearing got so bad lost all the rollers. Got so hot welded the inner bearing race to the axle. Alittle AC/DC alittle too loud I guess.

It's shocking how much a wheel bearing costs to replace at a shop these days. I replaced a pair at about 70k. It was obvious that it was the drivers side bearing. The drone was constant and would go away on sweeping righthand highway corners at high speed when the bearing got loaded up. The job itself was more physical than technical. I had another go out at 170k and it threw me off. It was more of a cyclical vibration and I thought it was the driveline. It was the passenger side this time.
