On the 3rd Gen, the auto-lock is for after the doors are unlocked but never actually opened... as in pocket-unlocked. After you exit the vehicle it's up to you to lock it... at least on a 3rd gen. Your spankin' new 4th Gen might be the same?

This is the answer. The Tacoma does not have walk away locks, sadly. The relock timer is only for when you unlock the doors and do not open them. They will then relock after the allotted time passes.

Go back to burying your head into the bar. Wake back up when that warm puddle in your pants gets too smelly.

The 2nd Gen's auto re-lock themselves if you don't open a door within +- 30 seconds. (at least mine does)

I like the feature, so can't confirm if it's something that can be turned off. Never looked it up in the owners manual.

Brings a smile to my face every so often when it beats me to the draw and I hear it lock just before I reach the door handle because I was being a slow poke.

The 4th gen behaves the same way. Default setting is 60 seconds. You can change the setting to 30 seconds, 120 seconds or off.

This has been the general attitude around this forum for the past 10 months or so.

    Forum member:
"This new gen is stupid whaaaaaaaaaa, the old Gen is better"

    Response:
"Sir, the 4th gen has the same or better (insert complaint here) as the previous gen"

    Thankfully it's getting better tho.

So, after all the responses, does your Trailhunter auto lock your doors if you unlock them with the fob but don't open the door in time?

    Far to much money spent.
Works just like the 3rd gen does, of course it works :)

I'm sure it works, I was just asking the OP since he hasn't responded since posting the "issue".

That's the common response from 2nd gen owners for the last 8 years. If Toyota were to start selling 1st gens again, you could be sure that 2nd gen owners would feel the need to comment about how their gen is still better. This condition 2nd gen owners suffer from, likely is due to toyota fitting that model with grandpa fenders/bumpers. They attract a certain type.

How dare you insult the catfish Tacoma.

Can't really see anything to argue with the above including the "grandpa fenders/bumpers comment"... one of the main reasons I chose one.

I also like the cranky 4x4 "electronic" system as well. It works. BTW: recently and about three years into owning this truck, I confirmed the speed limit lock-out for selecting 4H worked as designed the other day when I turned the 4x4 dial by mistake trying to turn up the climate fan speed.... doing about 70+ mph.... all kinds of beeps and blinking lights with that move but no shift: as designed. :proposetoast:

Is their a list of documented TSB's for the 2nd Gen? Google shows me long lists but I don't know if they are correct.

To my knowledge the 24 has 2 at this point? Grill shutter and transmission?
