A member here cut it for me. So sure, use the idea. It originally had milspec edition below, had issues with that sticking. It was certainly an install error, don’t think I cleaned the area well enough

I wanted to block the glare on the hood while driving and decided to do the entire top.

I'm still not sure if that tells people that I'm lame and have a little pp, or that I'm really cool and have a big PP.

    Big pp or little pp?

Did you apply that yourself? If you did, where did you source the vinyl?

I had a couple shop's do it. More than once.

The first time they ran out of knifeless tape, didn't tell me and decided to use a razor blade to "freehand" it... Wound up with about 6+ ft of cut's through the clearcoat and terrible wavy lines. I was either going to get the hood repainted, or free vinyl done. I opted for free vinyl and just had them overlap their fuckup by ~1/4". 2nd time turned out nice. Basically traded $800 of paint damage for $800 of free vinyl.

The camper shell I had done too.

It's all Avery matte black. You can buy it by the roll for pretty cheep. I opted to have the work done by someone else though. Judging by how much trouble I had tinting my house window's (which are perfectly flat) with insulating film from home depot... I'd rather just pay someone to do it right, vs paying for the material's, messing up, and winding up paying someone in the end anyways.

Just make sure you go an actual "vinyl" shop to get it done. Not a "Printed sign commercial vehicle wrap place" I guess the standard's of what is acceptable quality is significantly different between those who wrap $200,000 commercial vehicles and those who wrap $200,000 personal vehicles.

I would like to add vinyl to the top corners of the hood to cut down on ditch light glare. There are deer everywhere here and the ditch lights are a massive help. I read online that vinyl and wraps only last a few years but what about the giant matte hood decal Jeep adds from the factory? Those are still looking great years in so what's the difference?

Actually it depends upon which vinyl is used. The less expensive options only last a few years, but when you get the more expensive cast vinyl from 3M or Avery, they can last up to 10 years, longer if garage kept. Of course the longer lasting options do cost considerably more.

You wouldn't happen to still have that info? I'd like to get one myself and add a subtle bit of color to the tailgate.

I have had good luck with Oracle vinyl also but haven’t had anything on for 10 years or anywhere close but it seems to hold up way better than “premium” vinyl from cricut. I’ve only done smaller decals that I cut myself and have been considering doing some larger wraps in my truck. Thanks for all the info, I figured I’d go with 3M for larger wraps.

3M is the gold standard, but yeah, I use a ton of Oracal for much of my work and it does well too.
