Diddly squat for acorns around here . 2 years in a row gypsy moths eating our oak trees

 

He's taunting me now.
Old Buck I think.
Looks like a leaf or twig stuck on his antler tip.

If he comes out in the daylight and makes a mistake before dec.31, he'll be hanging on the meat hook.

 

Face looks old. Rack on decline?

 

I think so.
Wide rack and big body.
Would have liked to see him couple years ago.

 

Maybe I was just being impatient, doe sighted.

 

I'm not too far from you as the crow flies but no moths here.
Bumper crop 2nd year in a row after two years of nothing.
So many on the ground, it's like walking on marbles.

Yes
But very tough for me to see at that point . Ever since all my eye surgeries it’s been pretty challenging.

 

also slight double vision until I close one eye . Can no longer stalk through the woods . Peripheral vision not great either and I find myself sometimes on uneven ground stepping in low spots I didn’t see . The first couple years after all the surgery were real tough . I do alright though . Just have to slow down especially during turkey season. Lots of moving through the woods then .

 

I honestly cant see much in woods after bout 15 min past sunset.

 

My eyes get slightly fuzzy right at the transitional time at dusk. Sort of like fog rolling in.
Not so much at dawn.
My eye doc said it's a normal thing for old farts like me as it takes longer for aging eyes to adjust.

 

Lots of acorns here again this year and Helene put a bunch on the ground early too. Shot another doe Monday eve. Was gonna hold off but after a while they worked their way in to 40 yds,
.308 just sorta went off. Better to not look a gift horse in the mouth and an easy extraction. Meat quota is filled so it’s hunting for fun now. Was 37 degrees here this morn and frost. Tomorrow gonna be a good hunt I think.

 

Rifle season starts early there.

I'm still trying to get used to Virginia hunting season and now we have certain days we can shoot does.(I'm used to N.C. we could shoot does all season).

Muzzle loader from November 2nd to November 15th, Rifle season November 16th to December 14th, then Muzzle loader season again from December 14th to January 4th.
