Sheeeeeesh those are fun, how much did those set you back? I've looked at sets of rims for the BMW before and it was like $2K.

That's awesome! progressing pretty fast it seems, I'm still gonna be in C group for this weekend since it'll be my first weekend on the R6, hopefully B group by the end of it. A group on a 390 is wild haha

Nice! I'll have to take a look, but not sure if I'll make that one, my birthday is on the 26th and I was planning to do a trip that extended weekend but it's still kinda up in the air so I'll keep you posted! TrackDaz is a very laid back organization from the one time i went. Didn't even require removed/taped mirrors/lights. Threw me off when someone who was brand new to riding threw on their turn signal on the track...lol

I’m still not running A group pace (should be consistently 2:15 and lower on even my 390), but B group was super packed and A group was relatively empty so they were looking to move people out of B. I’ll still sign up for B next season till I can get to A on pace.

Thankfully I wasn’t the slowest person in the corners in A, either, so I didn’t feel bad haha. And I didn’t feel like I was much if any slower in the corners.

No worries if you can’t make BW next month! Hopefully I’ll really enjoy it there and start going back there next season so we can catch a track day together.

I paid 120$ each rim, two brand new 10x1.60 rims

I might try lacing them myself, but I might just drop it off and pay, still undecided but I have time

my next step is to have these fast50s billet hubs polished up

    0-2.jpg

2k for a full set of bmw rims though sounds about right, considering spokes hubs rotors etc.

soooo jeolous of you SoCal folks and your riding season. We're starting to count the days here in the midwest.

I was in Santa Barbara last weekend. Had lots of bikes filter past me on the 101. You'd think everyone possible would be on a bike given that option.

Getting out this weekend for a few hundred miles. Can't wait.

I've got Excel's on my one collectible machine. They mimic seventies style dished Borrani's. Not cheap but in the end worth the dosh...

For a minibike that's not going to be going a bajillion mph I'd give lacing it myself a shot. If you have the defined pattern to follow somewhere, shouldn't be too big of a deal if it ends up a little out of true compared to a professional wheelmaker.

35 degrees this morning on my ride to work. Have to break out my heated gloves later tonight when I get home.

ah that makes sense. Doesn't sound like you're too far off though!

Hopefully you like it. I definitely enjoyed my time there

it's certainly a big perk of living here haha. It always surprises me more people don't ride, considering the traffic we deal with.

I'm still rocking my summer jacket and gloves at the moment, though my fingers do get a bit chilly on the commute :anonymous:

    Ok. Don't rub it in.

As a Yamaha fanboy...did you see the footage of Kyle Ryde winning the British Superbike race? (i searched I didn't see mention of it here) Holy. Shit. You wouldn't even have to know what riding is like to get goosed watching that. What an incredible sequence. And the Yammy took it. Congrats.

I have, not, but just watched. man, that is some quality racing right there. I feel like the Honda might have taken it if not for those couple tire slips towards the end.

Time to replace my grips. The throttle grip is essentially melting in my hand. The bike is 13 years old, and I guess it soaked up as much sweat as it could. Does anyone have good recommendations? I prefer a thicker rubber grip. My dad has the heated Avons, which feel pretty great but not something I really need. According to Revzilla, there are few options for the XL1200X (Forty-Eight):

I'm leaning towards the high-priced option:

I gotta believe that's only because there's sooooo many retailers for Harley's that they're leaving them to it? Not a Harley guy but I know it seems like it took years before I was able to find moto sites that sold anything else.

a search here returns 350 hits. Good luck!

Yep- Once whittled down for my year & make and removing most of the tacky, shiny Boomer stuff, there are 19 options, 15 of which are standard slip-ons, that do not support dual throttle cables, hence my post :)

EDIT: I always had import bikes. This is my first Harley (my dad is finally proud of me).

Awesome. I love that even within the scene now, the Boomers are catching shade. I hear nothing but love for the Pan American, but honestly, a well done sportster build would be the only HD to speak to me. But I can't talk, I'm hung up on a niche within a niche. Hope you find 'em.

My dad has a Road King (white walls and chrome; it's pretty classy in a throwback way, with a very 1950s vibe, upright seating, and a big window screen) and an Ultra, which is so smooth with the 6-speed transmission but handles like a minivan. He says my Sportster 1200 is a "Girl's Bike" and I need to "get a Big Boy bike." Coming from Suzuki's and Honda's, this 550# Forty-Eight is the BIGGEST bike I've ever had.

I worked for a Harley dealership for years but have always owned Metric bikes with the exception of my Buell. Harley is unique in their way of handling grips. On Metric bikes the throttle tube and grip are separate pieces but Harley chose to make it a one piece affair so if you want to change grips Harley factory accessories are actually your best option. Kuryakyn made some decent options back when I worked in that area but now I'm not sure who's really offering anything.

I actually didn't think yours would be that heavy. All of my bikes fall in that same neighborhood. Thats plenty of weight in my view.

Few weeks back I rode a 350#, 130hp bike. I daresay the size of your balls relative to the size of the bike bear an inverse relationship at that point.

Tough havin' your ol' man callin' you out like that. Stay strong!

I think my season is done haha. I never got to test out my seat concepts seat :pout:

@gixxerphil Im thinking about scooping a CRF250L Rally over winter. I hate the headlights, so that will be one of the first things gone. How is yours after the wreck?
