Had a friend who’s dad was a “Beemer” we called them. He worked at IBM in the Hudson valley, what we would equal someone who worked at Microsoft today. Anyways he was a big golfer and country club dude with a pool and I sometimes would go over there house and play their video games on there big projection screen tv with my friend and his brother. I was a farm kid who’s dad was a teamster and working summers since I was 11 for school clothes and bicycles and dirt bikes. AC to us was the window wide open and hope for a breeze lol

you guys are pretty similar to me growing up.

my parents got central a/c, got rid of the wood burner, a fridge with icemaker & a dishwasher when i left home.

they lost their slave & they never made the younger kids do any of it.

Yea… I cut, split, hauled enough firewood for a lifetime. Through the snow. And I dared not do it in my school clothes lol. After we all grew up they got a new furnace…

Same, except I still don't have a fridge with an ice maker. It's stupid to have that much space in the freezer being used up by something that isn't needed( at least by me).

    Question:?

Is it impolite to vacuum leaves after dark, but no later than 9pm?

I'm in the city, but no real close neighbors.

I try not to use loud tools before 7am or after 8pm, I've always lived in the city though where the neighbors is at most 150 feet away. If it'll only be for less then a few minutes I dont sweat it. If your closest neighbor is say more then 500 feet away I wouldn't worry about it unless your running either a larger barely muffled motor like a zero turn/tractor or a backpack leaf blower.

Edit - I dislike how loud my shop vac is especially when using it in the garage, I bought a muffler for the discharge and now I won't say its quiet but its not as loud.

I have to note, this time of the year is the exception.

Sundown comes quick and the winter snows come just as quick. There is only a limited time to get these leaves under control.

Do it now or be stuck with them until spring.

Being a Friday night, the local schools are hosting football games and bands.

I don't think I'm upsetting too many peeps calm Friday night.

    Just my opinion.

OK let’s get down to brass tax here. How far away are your neighbors and how loud is your vacuum? When the wife and I lived in the burbs we had a neighbor that mowed his lawn at 9 at night and it really pissed my wife off. As for me, I’m m a heavy equipment operator so I don’t care but her vacuum drives me bat shit crazy I can’t be in the house when hat thing is screaming.

There are so many mills around here within a few miles. A log trailer and a boom truck and I'm all ready to save $40 bucks on lumber. ;-)

Ain't that the way it goes?

Hmmm.. Even after the kids have grown and left, I still heat with wood.

There is a nice fire flickering in the stove now. A freeze tonight... 'wouldn't have it any other way

7am to 9pm is perfectly fine for me. Outside those hours its a bit annoying. That excludes occasions where you need to clear snow or down trees or something to be able to leave. Especially during the week, I always went with "you worked till 4 and got home at 5, by the time you cleaned up and ate dinner its probably now 7, so why shouldnt i let you have two hours to do projects you want to do".

But i also never cared if my neighbor was having weeknight outdoor parties that were a bit loud, or was working in his garage later with the doors shut. Just turn up the tv a tad louder lol
