I do a full transmission, coolant, and oil flush every 420 miles (2 gas tanks) and stuff old coffee filters in my valve cover

The only side affect you may experience is perhaps a tiny bit more valve train noise and maybe, just maybeeeeee 1 mpg better economy.

    You’re safe buddy.

Who else just uses the 5qts and forgoes the extra 1/2qt? Been doing it for 9-1/2yrs,no issues. Oil reads right at the full mark as well.

Bought my 08 tacoma 4.0 at 170K and my 05 civic 1.7 at 130K. At present tacoma is at 240K and civic is at 190K. I change the oil and filter at 5000 mile intervals because thats easy to keep track of. I originally used pennzoil full synthetic oil due to a napa sale/pennzoil rebate coming to $3.00 a quart, I now use Costco full synthetic oil and buy 20 quarts when it goes on sale for about $3.20 a quart. I use napa pro select filters which if memory serves are made by wix, I purchase the master pack of 12 filters for each vehicle. Unless I were to get a truly high end vehicle like a Corvette or BWM, which I will not, I will continue with my current oil changes for future vehicles.
My works fleet uses refined synthetic blend and a mixture of Napa or Carquest oil filters depending on whats on sale, we have not had a engine fail due to the oil filter or 7k interval, idiot drivers yes but thats a different story.

Wait for $21. coupon from Toyota and have it done there every 5k. I just say NO to all their suggested items to do.

I'm not sure I'd put a half can of seafoam in and run it a few hundred miles. I put in 5-6 oz and let it idle 10-15 minutes or a short trip may be around the block.

Routine you say? I'll add my worthless $.02 here along with oil brand suggestions.

    Warm it up
    Drain
Place drain plug on new oil cap so I don't forget
    Remove filter while draining
    Clean the filter area
    Prime filter
    Install filter
    Reinstall drain plug
Fill with cold pressed coconut oil
Start and listen for funny sounds
    Reset MIL
Take a quick peep for leaks
    Shut off
    Log in maintenance spreadsheet
Drain from pan in to 5 gallon storage jug (because putting your old oil in the new container and rendering it un-recyclable is some amateur sh*t)
    Post my victory to TW

Every 5,000 miles or yearly (whichever comes sooner), using hoses from the oil filter drain and Fumoto valve to the drain pan. While it's draining, I replace the OEM engine and cabin air filters, and clean the MAF sensor and throttle body. Refill with Mobil 1 Super Synthetic 5W-30 and install a new OEM oil filter.

More of a patch guy, myself. But when I wash up for shore leave I err towards the monocle, don't care for the pinch of the nez.

My Tacoma and my partners 5G 4Runner both get oil changes with name brand full synthetic (with the correct weights obviously) and an OEM filter every 5k. Usually it's Mobil 1 or Valvoline, whatever is cheaper at the time.

We also both have the Fumoto valve so it's like 10 mins of work tops for each vehicle.

5k or 6 months, Penzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30, OEM filter, rotate tires, grease all zirks (5 of them), check coolant, brake, power steering, and windshield wash fluid levels. Very therapeutic for me.

I just want to say how awesome it is that the oil changes on these trucks is so easy and simple. No need to unbolt any covers or lift the truck, just get under it and open the drain plug. Then loosen the oil filter that's above the engine, and fill with new oil.

But yeah.. I recently tried the new Valvoline Restore and Protect engine oil :homer:. Will be opening up my oil filter and inspecting the cartridge soon when it's due for a change early November. Also, the OEM filters are the way to go because they're so cheap and they're better than the aftermarket stuff. I buy them bulk from the toyotaparts website so that I always have one on hand.

Add the FUMOTO valve and it’s even easier!

I change my oil every 10,000km, at every 5000km replace the DENSO oil filter.
