MAPP gas burns hotter than propane. It's become more wide spread since silver solder became a plumbing code, "shall be used..."

    Propane won't melt silver solder.

Well, after looking through the forums for an answer to my low oil pressure issues with no avail, I finally decided to take the lower oil pan off...

No idea there was sludge/stop leak build up. When I pulled the heads months ago it was spotless inside.

Never trust that your previous owner did their maintenance...:(

I’m definitely worried about the oil channels for sure!

This is how it looked when I did head gaskets in January. I would’ve never guessed it was that bad below. It’s crazy the oil pressure light came on so randomly! I’ve been driving it for months with no issues although I know it was an abused work truck but still!!

This oil by Valvoline is worthy of looking into, to help clean the piston rings, and oil veins.

Might be easy to drop the pan but to reinstall you have to prep/scrape/clean mating surfaces and apply FIPG. Which isn’t rocket science but I wouldn’t exactly call it a one minute reinstall.

Regardless, if he can drop the oil pan, form in place gasket after prep really won't be a big challenge.

The point is to set expectations so someone doesn’t drop the oil pan without realizing that it’s not a <1 min procedure to reinstall, and that they need to have a scraper and the FIPG on hand. Who knows, maybe the OP assumes it’s a rubber gasket. It wouldn’t be a fun surprise, would it, to think it’s a rubber gasket, drop the pan, and then find out it’s not. Especially if that’s your only ride.

On the other hand the OP might know it’s FIPG, but it’s pretty harmless to make sure he’s aware.

I for one would be very cautious about using an impact to remove oil pan bolts, just an old dudes .02.

Clean off any old silicone front the ends of the bolts. Prior to reinstall.
