They said it was a go. She's sitting in the car keeping her eyes closed now while I pickup her favorite meal for being so brave. It's a long drive home. They said it went well

One day short of one month and this little task is finally done.

Only for a project that it appears I never mentioned to come back from the dead a few hours later.

We had a tornado warning on July 3rd. Sirens in town went off, phones started ringing that there was a tornado, the whole works.

Except that the tornado was only clipping a corner of the county and not headed towards campus. Because of protocol, the alert went out anyway.

Because it was the day before the 4th, campus was fairly empty and anyone that could send out a mass email to everyone to say that there was nothing to worry about was gone. So everyone lost their minds and didn't know what to do.

The next week we had a meeting with me, a co-worker, my boss, my boss' boss, and three people from another department to go over tornado shelter plans.

The meeting started with the head of the other department saying that I should have already created these plans because this project was started a long time ago.

He's right - it was started a long time ago. So long that I wasn't even working there yet and at no point in the last 12 years has anyone ever mentioned it. So I'm not taking the blame for this one.

A few weeks later we get a preliminary list from them of shelter locations for every building. I start looking through them and have numerous issues. Usually involving the space they've chosen not being large enough to fit everyone that might be in the building. I send back my comments and alternate location(s). The response I got back was my comments point out some areas for "further discussion".

So I've done nothing on this for the last two months as no one has made a single comment.

Today I get an email asking if I've started and if I haven't if I could as it would be easier to look at the floor plans with the shelter location called out. While I don't disagree, it's pretty easy to pull up the floor plan and the Excel file and see where the room is.

So now I get to go through about 100 buildings to verify the shelter is in the correct area on the plans that are already done and create the plan from scratch on the ones that aren't.

My wife had hers done 25 years ago. Still doing good, although she's started needing readers, but that's just an age thing.

    Best of luck to her!

I know I did bury a best friends father this last weekend, but I don't think it has anything to do with this thread. I was very proud to be part of the ceremony, so I'm very happy to be remembered that I took pride in putting a Korean war vet to rest.

If my previous posts invoked responses because of the above postings, I can't think of a better source of pride and compliments.

    Many thanks, Dave!

Depends on the union. Illinois/Indiana unions are crap. They're literally stuck in their own feedback loops. My boss is specifically in a non-union business because the local 150 operators left him out in the cold after a bad accident... The electrical unions are ran entirely on favors and knowing a guy. My cousin got in because his wife's dad is a higher up. They kept finding reasons for me not to get in because that cousin is too distant of a connection...

Not all unions are bad, and not all non-unions are bad either. Sometimes work is just work.

    I get it.

    Point taken.

Let's not go down the political road. My comment started this. I'm not gonna be expanding on it for the above reason.

    Moving on...

Thanks for all the wishes and prayers guys. Got her home and comfortable in bed after a 3 hr drive home. Hopefully she's much improved tomorrow. They said she'd feel like sand was in her eyes for the rest of today. She said they weren't wrong about that

Are they still doing the goggles so you don't rub your eyes when you sleep?
