And even the "biggest best" Viair is only a single. What they came on their site the 440 can air up 35s pretty quick. Then I started to wander will something that's good for big jobs be to much for little jobs?

When talking small compressors like these, you can never have too much, especially with them all being in the "portable" category

I think if you were using it as a all general compressor for all kinds of jobs.. id recommend getting one of those air storage tanks... It wouldn't work as hard no matter what you chose

They all have a pressure switch that makes them cut off at 150 psi.. but with a storage tank you wouldn't have to cut the compressor on for say blowing up a float

Yes they likely are. I wouldn't install one without a tank, especially if you hard mount it

Air tanks are essentially useless on trucks. It will have zero effect on filling tires, and enough capacity to run an impact gun for a about 5 seconds at a time

I stand corrected, noise frequency reduction for lockers is valid.

I'm not gonna install one. Portable is what I'm looking for. So one of the duals for around 200 or less. Or the Viair 440 for 300. Will l I see the benefit of the extra $100 spent or is it just throwing money away?

I think the crew will get drunk swigging beers waiting for you to air up all 4 tires.

I have a Viair 400P and I used to keep it up in my pelican case on the roof. It fit fine but I had to lay it sideways to get the pelican case lid closed. I kept it up there for a few months until I checked randomly and there was moisture in the bottom of the case and it was causing my tools to rust. Some of the components on the compressor were starting to pit so I pulled it out and put it back in the cab of the truck until I can figure out how to keep the moisture under control in the pelican. I expressly put it up on the roof to keep shit from taking up rear seat floor space. My kids are getting bigger and need space to put their feet. So if any of you have any suggestions on how to keep the moisture under control, I'd like to put everything back up there again for long term storage.

I checked the condition of the weather seal and it looks to be clean and free from tears or voids. There is one minor crease but I don't think that would allow moisture to work its way into the box. I had two ideas, one idea was to drill small drain holes in the front and rear corners and another in the middle of the box to let water drain out. Or two, run a bead of silicone around where the weather seal is, cover it with cellophane then close the box while it cures. It's basically what we do in the aircraft maintenance industry when weather sealing swing windows that pilots report leaking. Put a little bit of petrolatum on the lid before closing to keep it from sealing closed. I'm not sure if it's water intrusion from rain or condensation from humidity during the heating/cooling cycle over night.

If it's from the regular heating and cooling cycles, you can toss a properly sized desiccant bag in there and it should do the trick. Go on Amazon and check out the size ratings. You could also use multiple smaller bags. You can get ones that are reusable by drying them out in the oven or microwave. If there's no clear sign of water intrusion, I'd start there, and you'll either have you solution or narrow down the issue.

It's likely condensation from said heating/cooling. Drill a drain hole in it? The military cases I have have a valve to relieve pressure and possibly moisture

This pelican case had a vent near the handle, I was under the impression that all Pelican cases had vents. Well, I can say that all the pelican cases I've dealt with have that breather. I may just drill the tiny holes and call it a day and hope that the wind across them doesn't whistle.

Couldn't decide on pavers for the top of the fire pit and not wanting to spend a lot of money, I just coated the top with mortar mix. Gives it a more finished look. We'll see how it holds up.
