    Thanks!

im thinking this could be a possibility too. We have had a really hard time with ants in our backyard this year. He loves to be outside. He loves to go out and frog himself on the ground. Could he grass or ant bite or combination of both.

She did mention Apoquel, but says it’s not approved for dogs under one years old. But I have saw it mentioned many times in the Dalmatian pages I follow. It seems to work very well.
we have been doing a probiotic. But I will look in to other ones. For Dalmatians to be short haired my god do they shed! I sweep all the time. Even bought a robot vacuum that runs everyday once a day. I still have glitter everywhere.

Just changing away from the metal bowls his face is already less red. I did not really like this vets attitude. She is pushing for me to put him on a prescription diet. I think it’s mostly because they aren’t familiar with the food I am feeding him. If it’s needed that’s one thing. I asked her about an allergy specialist if we tried these things and nothing changed. She basically smirked and chuckled. Said they were very expensive and it’s a commitment most people weren’t willing to make. But if it came down to it she’d give me a referral if it came down to it.

As someone that’s did allergy shots I know this is a commitment LOL. I’m allergic to almost everything outdoors, cats and dogs. But I’ve had animals all my life. I’m not giving them up. Nor will I let him sit hear and chew himself til he’s making sores.

I don't think your vet is too wrong. Allergy treatment in dogs is almost exactly like humans. It's gonna take a while and it's gonna be expensive. And absolutely, most people cannot make that commitment because of that.

Dals have sensitive skin to begin with, not all but many do. Food can play a role in skin issues. I spent time with my vet and she explained the various options and said she would start with diet. So, if you looked at proteins, most dogs are allergic to poultry so chicken/turkey and things like rice would be out. They are less likely to be allergic to bison, salmon, or venison. I started with the Salmon and he did really well. It was like night and day difference and that was the Costco brand food (Diamond Naturals). Turns out he was also allergic to his dander (which is why I suggested vacuuming). We did a couple of weeks of Apoquel and then as needed after that. The vet also recommended this cardboard food that was almost $100 a bag but that was mostly because VCA's recommendation is to try and sell that--it's basically a protein only diet. You can also find grain free foods although you might wanna talk to the vet because there are some findings about heart condition and grain free. The ratio of protein/fat/carbs is important too. Kimo gets a lamb/rice that's roughly 27% protein, 16% fat, and 47% carbs. These percentages depend on activity and can change with age so a good convo with the vet helps.

Before I picked Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice, I tried the Salmon and also something else. I'd do the salmon again. I also used DogfoodAdvisor dot com to lookup the particulars--I thought it was a pretty good resource.

Good luck solving this. It's frustrating for sure.

OK wonderful and knowledgeable folks. A little help.

Out of nowhere, Tessa has stopped eating from her slow feed bowl. I did some reading and found that an aversion can develop to the bowl or where it is. So I did a side by side test. Her outside water bowl and the white ceramic bowl we feed her breakfast in. She ate from the white bowl, and not the stainless water bowl. So plastic slow feed and stainless water bowl appear to be a no go. We also moved the bowls out of the office next to her crate where it has been from day one.

I'm going to jump on Amazon and look at slow feed bowls to see what other options there might be. Input from you fine folks would be appreciated.

This is the bowl she is eating from, same as pictured earlier.

I think there are aversions or maybe lack of interest are things dogs go through now and then. Kimo goes through them. If he's refusing food, that's different than not eating. If he doesn't eat but I offer watermelon and he eats it, I'm OK with that. As long as he eats something and he pees and poops, All good. You can achieve the same thing scattering food on the floor.
Kimo also won't eat if he's gotta cut cable. If your dog does not eat or drink, that requires urgent veterinarian assistance as it could be a blockage.

Try adding treats to the food and feeding less. Fawn over it before giving it to her :) Scatter it on the floor. Most of the slow feed bowls are plastic.

She'll eat it off the floor. It's the bowl that's become the issue. Part of what she does is hold out for treats (surprise, right?) until after I give her the allergy pill pocket combo and go to bed. Gwen tells me she will go finish her bowl after I head up stairs.

This started a couple days ago. When we put her food in a regular bowl she ate it too fast and threw it up. We did the rice and scrambled eggs for a day or so just make sure she didn't have an upset stomach. Back to regular food without the bowl.

We were planning on boarding her while we are in TN. We're going to try and take her with us now with the food issue going on.

I did find a white ceramic slow feed bowl. We should have it tomorrow.

Hopefully, it's just a phase. I know with Kimo, I don't feed him with the slow feed anymore. Something else that may help is moistening the food.

She still eats the kibble fast, 2-3 pieces at a time without much chewing from a regular bowl. I think that's why she vomited the other day. Her breakfast is softer stuff she can't easily pick up so it slows her down.

Give it a little spray and let it sit before giving it to her. Maybe cut the amount in half.

    Yeah.
We had a dog once that was afraid of stainless bowls, wouldn't go near them. Maybe something with his vision, or just freaked out by the shininess or reflections or something.

Same here, interestingly enough our lab kept having multiple small cuts on his chin and our vet said “you have plastic food and water bowls don’t you?” I said yeah we do, he advised us to switch to stainless and our dog hasn’t gotten those cuts since. Seems like stainless is just better all the way around.
