Is adding fuel stabilizer with HEET harmful?

    Hello all,

I wont be driving my truck as a daily driver anymore. It will be sitting in the garage for +6mths moving forward. I wash/waxed it, detailed interior (so no food), pumped up the tires to avoid flat spots, peppermint on rags under hood and spare tire for rodents, keeping battery hooked up with a NOCO 1 hooked to it every other week, fuel tank is topped off full.

My main concern is I put 2 bottles of HEET (forgot I put one in and accidently put a 2nd in) after I filled it up about a month ago. Did not realize HEET is not a fuel stabilizer. Will it hurt anything if I add a fuel stabilizer to a full tank with already 2 bottles of HEET in it?

Also if you guys have any additional tips or if I am missing anything else critical, I would appreciate the info.

I'm not sure any fuel additive will assist over that period of time. I'd be more inclined to drop it down to 1/4 tank and then fill with
fresh quality gas after you start driving it again. Why don't you just leave it at my house and I'll drive it around for you a few times
    a week....

I think you will be fine. I have a couple vehicles that wont get driven for months at a time and all I do is keep them hooked up to battery tenders. Never had an issue with fuel. They both take 93 but I for sure have had gas sit in atleast one of them for over 6 months and it has been fine

    Thats pretty much it.

I'd disconnect the battery with the noco on it for that long, but gas is pretty good now, I wouldnt stress about it beyond what you've done.

I typically remove the battery when its stored that long incase the battery starts to leak, it can leak somewhere someone can see it.

I'd leave tank full so there’s less air above it for water to condense from.

Fill it up all the way with ethanol free and put a battery tender on it.

Been doing it for decades. Run tank down, add stable and a can of techron, the quicksilver Merc stuff is good also. Fill with non ethanol or ''powersport'' fuel [usually 89 but no ethanol]. Make sure your brake fluid is fresh every couple of years. Do NOT wash it and then store it, wash it a week or so before storage and drive it to make sure ALL water is evaporated inside panels and such, standing water is bad. Fresh wax is good, cover it, anti mice devices and such are VERY good, plug any intakes. I run mine til hot, [drive it don't let it idle] pull into my spot, shut it off and immediately spray about a 30 second shot of kroil into the tailpipe and immediately plug it with a oil soaked rag. I want it to evaporate off inside the system and recoat as much as possible. Never had a sensor fail, always starts right up in spring.

If there is a water drip point in the muffler, Kroil may drip from it so put a little pan under it or plug it up with a bit of ductseal.

I always toss mothballs [real ones, not the fake crap] inside and inside the airbox so mice don't find it appealing.

And yes, battery tender or pop one lead and float charge with a tender that only charges if the voltage goes below a certain point. Overcharging is just as bad as under and make sure, if you have cells you can check the electrolyte level in, to check it periodically and refill as needed with distilled water only.

Learning some stuff about long-term truck storage here.

I use a battery tender for my riding mower...so I definitely agree with that suggestion.

Moth balls is a good idea too.

The gasoline part...which way to go??? lol

I'll come back here if I ever have to park my truck for long periods of time.

I store my Jeep over the winter (4+ months).
    • I second ethanol free gas, and a full tank.
    • Disconnect the battery.
    • Along with moth balls, put a few dryer sheets inside. Keeps it smelling fresh, and I've read mice don't like it?
    • And mice bate under it!

Some sticky traps with a peanut [oils from peanut butter can release a mouse] in the center allows you to see if mice are gaining access to your storage area. I put a little dam of cayenne pepper around each wheel, mice do NOT like tracking thru it and I don't see too many mice with Sombrero's here.

I'd get along well with Slo Poke Rodriguez though.

I’ve stored vehicles for months to years being in the military. One thing I do, and some might say it’s not necessary, is put the vehicle on jack stands. Too many times I’d come home to flat spots on my tires. Takes all of 30 mins and harbor freight has them fairly cheap.

Adding on, also if you have less that a 1/4 tank it leaves part of the fuel pump and sending unit exposed and they will dry out and could cause the sending unit not to work.
I have been there before FYI

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It's literally just a bottle of methanol. Doesn't really do any harm but unless you're in some crazy temps it's also not useful either. It has to be pretty damn cold to freeze gasoline

It's not about the gas, it's about the water in the gas and it separating out and freezing or causing corrosion.

It's why for storage especially, non ethanol gas is a better choice then even premium with ethanol.

Toyota’s agency for aid organization and NGO vehicle sales, Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings, has a pamphlet with their recommendations for short- and long-term vehicle storage.

There’s some good advice in it.

And the main TGS website is absolutely worth a visit too for those who haven’t seen it yet.

Peppermint oil for mice. At my old house I had issues with them. Moth balls just made my truck smell gross and the mice didnt mind it. The drier sheets smelled better but they made nests with it. But peppermint oil worked for me

HEET is simply ethanol....it isn't really good for anything except mixing with water and burning better than water. I'd go drive it till the tank is mostly empty...fill it up with fresh fuel and normal stabilizer...
