    Sorry to hear bro.. for future, you might want to do this hose clamp mod as added security... just in case you forget to lock the tailgate.

    The best thing about the lock is the detterent it provides. A thief probably won't even check to see if it's locked if he sees a lock on it.

    I use the backup camera and it works great with the PL5300. The handle has a little placeholder if you don't have a camera, so it'll work with a 2008.

    So you have to buy a backup camera separately from the pop & lock pl5300? I always thought it came with one. :eek:

    Ha ha 2009+ Tacomas come with back up cameras. PL5300 just gives you a slot for the factory camera.

    You can probably buy one but you also need to get a new rare view camera with video display to wire it up.

    I just got my tailgate replaced after being stolen. Toyota quoted $700 just for the camera alone. Bastards. I know it don't cost that much.

    Bought a Pop N Lock factory-painted to match my truck. It arrived with scratched paint. Also paint was mottled and of poor quality. Finish on the metal was poor and needed some cleaning up. Had to return it. No way I would be happy with it on my truck.:(

    Can't speak for that one since I don't have mine painted... the one I have isn't the best of material but it has served me well for about a year now.

    Each key is different. They are double sided security lock style keys. The keys are numbered so you can call and have new keys made if you lose a one.

    Just to follow up after having the handle installed on my truck since Aug 2010.

    My Pop & Lock is holding up well to normal use, never a problem. The glossy coating has all fallen off so now it's a flat black and looks much better that way in my opinion.

    Well worth the money.

    I just got a 2011 4x4 double cab. Great Forum! Thanks for the info on the Pop n Lock. Just ordered one from TRUCKALTERATIONS.COM for $52.99 after reading these reviews. I also ordered the McGuard tailgate lock from Amazon and put it on yesterday. Wish I had known how easy it was to steal a tailgate, I'd have had these items on hand before bringing the Tacoma home!! BTW, the McGuard tailgate lock required some trimming of the plastic to make it fit the closed tailgate... don't know if anyone else has experience with this item.

    I used a simple good quality stainless steel hose clamp. They handle the weather very well and only cost a few bucks. It does make it more difficult to remove the tailgate when you need to but if that is very infrequent then I'd recommend that route. Sorry, didn't want to take over the Pop-n-Lock thread. I just didn't want people buying an expensive part when you don't have to. Also, if you use your Pop-n-Lock to lock the tailgate all the time, you don't even need the hose clamp.
