There is no set rebuild schedule for these. It's only necessary if you feel shock fade or develop a leak. Most people are getting 100k+ miles and still not needing to do anything

We don't rebuild them. Dobinsons down in Miami do. Just takes an hour or 2 depending one how many shocks you send in

Finally got the 110 leaf pack installed. Surprisingly it’s holding up a decent amount of weight. I think eventually I will be buying the extra leaf to make it a 111R pack.

    Thanks Mike!
    38" driver side
    38.5 passenger side
I had you set it at 2.5" If I remember correctly. I want to lower the passenger side 1/2 an inch so its the same.

apologies if this sounds boneheaded, but my pre-assembled shocks came with a flat bushing packed inside. the shock + spring seems completely assembled, and the top bushing seems sufficiently squeezed out, making me think that the assembly is fully torqued down and ready to install as-is. But with this extra flat bushing in the box, and my pre-assembled shock not showing very much bare thread like the attached Exit Offroad youtube image, I am wondering what to do next.

does this assembly look ready to go, or do I need to do anything with the top nut and/or spare flat bushing? thank you for the help!

You’re good to go how it is. That bushing is there for shipping protection

another question for whoever is feeling generous with their experience, please: mine GS59-940 rear shocks seems to have only two washers and two bushings on the top end. so the upper shock mount/frame would be sandwiched directly between the bushings. whereas most of these Dobinson's instructions on the Exit Offroad website say that a 3rd washer is really important in there. so it goes Bottom washer > bushing > mid washer > mount/frame > bushing > top washer.

so does a 3rd gen ride directly on the lower bushing, or am I missing a lipped washer?gs59-940 rear shock.jpg

also my GS59-940's shipped with some flat washers and sleeves, but seems like I don't these on a 3rd gen Tacoma?

okay I think I figured my shock questions. now fully installed: 110 leaf springs and GS59-940 shocks in the rear, All Pro flip kit. GS59-221 (standard length) shocks and CS59-314 coils. I currently have no extra weight (no bumpers, winches, bed topper, etc.). Seems to have netted 2 inches up front and 2.25 inches in the rear. thank you all for the helpful discussions here, and of course CrikeyMike for the advice.

I just took it around the block and I have slight vibration accelerating around 20mph, and noticeable steering wheel shake when decelerating around 20 mph. I didn't drive any faster because I don't want to leave the neighborhood until I'm more confident with my installation job here. I marked my alignment cams and they are back in the same position, but I have not driven to alignment shop yet. Attached my before and after driveline angles, and pics of CV axles post-lift.

has anyone had similar vibrations/ steering wheel shakes after a ~ 2-inch lift, please? wondering how I should think about alignment/carrier bearing washers/axle shims/ECGS bushing. thanks for you input!

I had a vibration immediately after installing my lift and, like many others, it was the front needle bearing (replaced with ECGS bushing). This is easy to diagnose as it goes away if you put the truck in 4wd. So replicate the test and put it in 4wd. If the vibration goes away, you have your culprit. If not, keep chasing some of the other possibilities.

    thank you!

Feeling less panicked now after my first real wrenching job. Coasting in Drive gives some whole-truck vibration and it sounds like a subwoofer symphony (deep and loud). But shifting to neutral while coasting to red light fixes a lot of vibration. Based on people smarter than me on TW, that suggests my pinion angle is bad and engine braking makes it worse by wrapping the axle a bit and pulling it further down. This goes away in neutral. I rush ordered a Carrier Bearing drop kit from Rough Country (item 1776BOX1) and used 2 of 3 spacers as a test, not much difference in vibration. Then used all 3 spacers (max carrier bearing drop for this kit) and the steering wheel shake went away, overall made things a little less dramatic.

Got an alignment from Belle Tire and I was pretty far out, pic attached. To my surprise, this fixed some of my vibrations.

I've done 2Hi to 4Hi test several times and am not convinced that my current problem is caused by needle bearing. No obvious need for ECGS for now.

So it looks like I will need some axle shims based on my driveline angles and the coasting-in-Drive-versus-Neutral phenomenon. The Dobinson's kit itself is fantastic, super high quality. Hoping to enjoy it once I chase these vibrations away. Folks in TW Suspension forum seem to think my pinion angle is pretty bad, so maybe my particular truck is a little more difficult to lift.

@Crikeymike Thanks for providing assistance/recommendation to folks for the Dobinson's setup in this thread. I'd like to get an MRR setup, and a question on spring rate:

I have a third gen Tacoma, and want the MRA59-A220 struts which are capable of 0-3.5" of lift. I run ~100 lbs. up front on the truck. If I'm targeting 2.5" of lift, what spring rate should I go with?

    C59-314 and adjust the preload.
    C59-352 - (50mm-2.0") Heavy load front end (110-240lbs) / (60mm-2.4") Stock front end
    C59-354 - (60mm-2.4") Heavy load front end (110-240lbs) / (70mm-2.75") Stock front end

I'm leaning toward the 314 spring - I would rather have a soft ride compared to too stiff. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks man!!

Yeah, if you want it to be as soft as possible, the 314 springs set to 226mm on the struts should be at about 2.5" with the added weight you've got. If you plan to add more weight later, then you'll most likely want the 352's.
