    Hi all,

I recently sold my 24 tundra and bought a 24 Tacoma. So far I’m loving this truck. While the paint is absolutely horrible, (hoping Toyota corrects this) this truck is perfect for what I need. Sure I miss the tundra and the luxuries it came with, but since I have no kids and limited garage capacity, i think downsizing was the best option. Also, I did start getting in my head about all the problems tundras were having and I did have a few myself with only 2k miles. Anyone else downsize? Do you feel you made the right decision.

@gmtech I have enough room now with the Tacoma but I did back up tundra a few times and it was basically the same fit lol. My German shepherd didn’t appreciate the tundra.

@thefinalstraw bro, this paint is in shambles. Swirls and micro scratches everywhere. I’ve seen a few videos on how bad this paint is but i never expected it to be this bad. My tundras paint was light years better. I PPFd that truck and had it coated. The taco isn’t worth doing anything to until Toyota fixes it themselves.

How's the power difference? Night and Day? Was the Tundra Hybrid? In a similar realm? Much difference in height?
My garage door is only 2-3" taller than my 2nd gen, ~2" lift with 35" tires.

It’s honestly horrible, I would’ve gotten white if they had it or even silver but for the trim level I wanted to it was either this or black. waiting for a call back from Toyota corporate. They already took it in once after I bought it and did a “paint correction”. They didn’t do shit, if they really did at least the swirls would’ve came out. I know plenty of great detailers that can correct the paint but I’m not paying out of pocket for that so I’m waiting to see what Toyota says.

@findingthingsout Yep had the hybrid! Forsure loved the smooth ride, lots of power and towing was a breeze. But again, for daily use the Tacoma in my opinion is much more comfortable and even though it’s a little rougher around the edges it’s more of a joy to drive. Height different is definitely noticeable and overall length. I got the 6 inch bed and I still have 2-3 inches front and back as to where with with the tundra I had to be spot on or else I’d be in trouble of the garage door catching a bumper. Like I said the luxuries were night and day in the tundra but there’s something about the Tacoma that I just love.

i'm not doubting you, but i found a few videos as well, as well as some forum posts, and they are all made by the same guy (TRD Jon), so i can't tell if it is a widespread problem or a vocal minority.

i do have a clear stake in this, as i am 1-2 weeks away from taking delivery of my own '24 in underground. professional polish and ceramic was first on my list to get done anyway, but still...

Toyota paint at least on this gen is horribly soft. It'll micro mar just looking at it wrong. Mine is Underground as well. I just use a cover up product to fill in the micro marring and swirls. It's a daily driver so no sense in polishing the crap out of it.

I traded a 2016 Tundra Limited for my 24 taco.. absolutely loved my Tundra but wanted something new and smaller. Thought I would miss the Tundra but hasn’t bothered me in the slightest now that it’s gone. Love my Trailhunter

I went from my 07 tundra with the 5.7 to a 2023 trd off road tacoma, manual transmission. I loved my tundra, but I wanted the manual.
The 2023 did not impress me, and it was totalled allowing me to get a 2024 trd off road, manual transmission.

Love the truck. My kids are grown and unfortunately I no longer have my two labs, so I don't need a huge interior and I love shifting.

@thefinalstraw Bro, Jon is spot on. I’d really look at the paint, I mean my whole issues is. Yes the paint is crap, but let me get swirls in there, let me get micro scratches in. It’s crazy how they can even sell these trucks in this condition. I went back to the dealer the next day and every single truck has imperfections. It sucks!

    @2023tacomer wish I would’ve gotten a manual, congrats!

I agree Toyota drop the ball on the paint. I have a black TH and already have swirl marks on the sides and top roof had a lot of imperfections. I’m pretty sure the month long QC hold at the docks had a part in it. Finally caved in and got it paint corrected and Graphene coated at a shop. Best decision ever and $1000 well spent. Even the detailer said the paint was worst than he thought.

Yes it does. I looked at two Limited one in UG and Black. Both looked like complete crap! Test drove the underground non Hybrid and it was a slug. Slow and not responsive like my tuned 2018 and the ride just flat out was not as good. Hated the smaller looking sliding rear window and you see everything under the back bumper. The exhaust system is just hanging there like a 70 year old set of nuts! The truck still has some growing to do before I buy!

Did you not research Tacoma? Ongoing / expanding Transmission TSB and possible future recall. Congrats on new truck.

More than I need but still not enough.
Congrats on the new truck. Don't worry about all of the TSB this and that, most of the negative comments about the 4th gen are from people who don't have one. Yes, there have been a handful of issues that have gone back for warranty work but most of us our enjoying our trucks issue free.

Says the new guy who's owned one gen so far... Hopefully it will live up to the name, but as someone who's owned every gen besides this one (though have test drove a few and had a few deposits), still not impressed, we shall see. Still think he made a good move moving from Tundra to Taco.
