    7-8 codes.......need help

So I put long tube urd headers on my 09 tacoma v6 6spd manual. After long battle with two sets of upper manifold cats and codes not going away.....p0430, and periodically 420. I retorqued and regasketed thinking I didn't have the correct one......now both metal.

So after putting on the headers, on for 2 weeks, I got the codes back along with p0171, p0430,420.

Then I was coming home the other night and it went into limp mode, no faster than 25. Then it shook it off and took off, and then it did it again, and again, until it broke down on an off ramp @ 9pm. I let it rest and it started up again. But when I got it home my Innova Scanner gave me codes
po351,352,354,355,356(notice no 353). It said that all my coil packs but cylinder 3 toast.
So when I start it, starts fine and but then immediately it runs beyond terrible and won't really run, probably only cylinder 3 running, but no back fire, which once again, only happened once coming home initially.

Some one told me to put a new O2 sensor relay switch and I bought one, but don't know where it goes.
So please help me as I am a diy, but this has me confused REALLY BAD. I don't want to have to take it to shop but I might have to. I think I can fix it if you guys can figure this puzzle.

    Thanks Brian

35X codes are ignition confirmation codes.
You need to check the IGF wire...

    Let me pull some diagrams.

    What's the IGF wire?
    Ignition ground frequency wire?

It's explained in the Post I linked above.
It's the Ignition Confirmation (Feedback) line, the PCM controls the coils on the Ignition Timing (IGT) wires. When the coils receive a pulse on the IGT wire they fire a spark then send a pulse back to the PCM on the IGF wire, if the PCM does not see the feedback pulse from the coil despite sending an IGT pulse it assumes the coil is not firing and sets a P035x code where x is the cylinder number of the coil. It also disables the injector for the affected cylinder(s) for as long as it doesn't see a feedback signal.

Since it runs fine initially that tells me all the coils are firing but the PCM isn't seeing the feedback signals and is thus shutting off the injectors so my primary focus would be checking the IGF lines.

Are the coils still OEM or are they aftermarket? We've seen alot of issues with aftermarket coils (especially the knockoffs from Amazon/ebay) either not sending a feedback signal or pulling the feedback circuit to ground and causing a start/stall.

Thanks so much. The coils are Ripp supercharger coils and they have been on for almost 2yrs.

I would think exhaust has no bearing on engine running. I once ran a car for a brief period of time with no exhaust. Had no choice got the wrong exhaust had to get another one that fit. It ran fine. Just loud.

I can see an exhaust leak causing P0420 cat inefficiency. But not a misfire.

I worked on a car with missing exhaust to fix it. Potentially a genius stole a muffler for it to sell precious metals none of which are in a muffler.
    It ran fine. Just loud.

the engines job is to run. With or without an exhaust.
An exhausts job is to filter, quiet, and reroute combustion gases away from the driver.

If you do some searching on here you will find that people have had issues with those with anything from misfires to coil circuit codes.

The RIPP coils are know to cause issues.
I'd start with checking the 5v ref.

    So up dates gents.
Since I last posted I was bite by a copperhead snake on my dominant hand, the thumb. I had the flu a week or so before that, then I found a copperhead 2 days ago with what looked like scatter shot holes in it, but then my Great White Pyrenees went limp and I figured it out....she's come around after two days of rest. We both were a mess. The stupid hospital wouldn't give me antivenom. Poison control said,'it wasn't as lethal as a rattler, so I wasn't a candidate. Each antivenom vial COST $5,000-$6000 dollars. I couldn't hardly see my fingers, and the emt shot me full of the legal amount of fentanyl and it didn't touch the pain....IT WAS LIKE HYDROCHLORIC ACID WAS SHOT THROUGH MY VEINS. Not something I desire to have happen again.

But onto my findings. A part-time mobile mechanic found out THAT, the ripp coil packs, when he put a pen like voltage thing on each coil, and the key off and out of the ignition, the pen lite up as if it was reading hot or they were engaged. He said that was bad. He said it was electrical. I showed him this post, but of course his pride, and thinking I don't know anything (I've done all my truck maintenance till now).

So here's where I need help. He thinks I need a cpu, ecm, ecu(just covering my bases). AGREE....DISAGREE? put an A or D
I will share the site in another post where I found another cpu, ecm, ecu. The mechanic said there's two prices because one is for just regular use and the other in case for add ons.
So it's called flagship one pcm. I can't share it with this phone.
    There are 2 prices $270 and $790 I think.
I told him about the red and white wire called the IGF wire according to our conversations but he didn't seem to care. I'm mechanical, not electrical. I haaaate wires.
Let me know what you think.....

    I’m not home right now.
Let me catch up on this thread.

The mobile guy won’t be in the business long if he doesn’t like or start learning electrical.

And also, sorry about you hand man.
We just had to evict this guy earlier in the summer. IMG_2487.jpg

    Yeah, nightmares.
I might take to a GM dealership that won't go toyota crazy about needing toyota parts. There is one guy that @ that does work on toyotas there regularly I guess. I don't want the toyota stealership ripping me off.

Do you still have your OEM coils? Or buy some Denso coils from Rockauto. Easy to swap in, and that’ll probably fix all your problems.

So Tuesday 10/8 and Wednesday 10/9 I'll be working on it tomorrow. I do think new coils may be the answer because I put 3 plugs and coils on the passenger side and it almost started.
BUT , if not I'll definitely be doing the other thing tnshooter mentioned.
I am humbled by all your help and I thank you.

You and me both. The plan is to replace my plugs tomorrow.
So we'll both be "under the hood".

    Keep us updated.

So update my tacoma addict gents.

I had already order the ripp coil pack and plasma(not platinum) iridium plugs from pulstar.
I put all new everything and it started, and ran for 2 seconds and stalled. A little puff of smoke @ the muffler came out(condensation) and it acted like it wanted to start again but it didn't.
After I stopped trying and left the key on, there is a humming, electrical sound, fairly loud, coming from on top of the Intake.

When I don't try and start it, I can hear a really low hum, if I put my ear to the intake. I just thought it my be good to see if it was doing anyway.

Let me know. We'll crack this mystery together. I'll look back @ the other stuff that was posted.
    Thanks....Brian

So, I went and did something else, and came back, it started but stalled after a second, and I did it again and it started and it stalled. The hum was there so I put my ear directly on the wide part of the intake and the hum was very loud and a very light hum feeling.
