I did, did the breather mod everyone did here. Had -30 weather for a week or more, somehow something froze up. Had the breather in the drivers side cubby in the bed.

Sure, the ABS system would still work. But they made two mirror image parts for a reason- to keep the sensor and wire on the opposite side of the axle as the shock absorber.

This a good write up, thanks.
I was working on my 06 rear wheel bearing and pulled the old bearing off to discover the axle had some grooving and needed replacement.
While looking for an axle, I noticed Dorman has a pre-pressed bearing and axle assembly that includes everything plus the wheel seal and o-ring.
For $380 on ebay, I gave it a shot. Install went easy, bearing feels smooth. (I have the Timken/Koyo standing by just in case though)

Side note, I was surprised in the price difference in Ebay, Oreillys, & Autozone for the same Dorman part number.
Ebay was 380, Oreillys was 500, and Autozone was 720 for the Dorman 926-139.
The Ebay seller was "parts_link", quick shipping at 3-4 days.
    Hope this helps someone.

I lurk around on quite a few Toyota forums because I find that often the enthusiast owners will pick up on issues and trends before the dealership will so it gives me a good heads up on the knowledge!!

Oh your videos helped me out on many more things before I found out about the Toyota forums. They are very informative and helped me to keep an eye out on other issues that I would not have known to look out for. Thank you for your videos!

This concerns me. In videos I see people just sliding the axel all the way down the shaft without much apparent care.

How do you re-install while being careful not to dislodge this baffle inside the differential?

How do you know when the axel has seated correctly into the differential?

Very nice write-up. Just wondered if he used the 12 ton or 20 ton Harbor Freight press?

20 ton. With the sounds made and force required I’m not sure a 12 ton would break the old bearing free.

Sorry just saw this. When reinstalling make sure to reinstall the axle shaft slowly and try and keep the axle centered in the tube as best you can. If you feel any resistance back out and try and recenter. It’s more or a feel thing than a specific procedure.

Thanks for all your info., it really helps.
My right rear bearing has become noisy, but still can't feel any play in it. I'll be replacing it before too long. It sounds like the noise is in the front sometimes, as if it's in the front diff. I topped off the differential last year when I did the ECGS bushing so I know it's full.
I replaced the left front bearing a few months ago (about 5k miles ago). It was easy to tell it was bad, lots of movement when wiggled by hand. Right front, can't feel any play in it.

You can also use a larger nut to pull the new stud through the hole in the bearing.

Turns out it's my right front that's making most of the noise. Replaced the left in May (about 4k miles ago or so). Good thing I bought two. I expected the right one might fail before too long. I don't know if a previous owner replaced one or both. I have put about 33k miles on it myself.
