I don't agree with anything, I have no idea what the information is. They dropped the "it's totaled" bomb on me and left the office yesterday with no other information

You need to get that info cause paying 10k for a fender, fender flare and bumper with paint is crazy and them not fixing the suspension on top of it lol

@PilotBoy352 I had a similar accident years ago in my Taco.. a lady pulled out in front of me and the impact was identical.. smoked my gusseted spindle, etc.. almost exactly like yours. It was not totaled. I can try and find how much the check was, but I just used the opportunity to upgrade said components and moved on. question and fight for sure.

Well, I just got off the phone with insurance and my shop. Insurance will give me $21,900 and let me take my mods off it. They will also let me take the vehicle and have it repaired, giving me $13,000 for that. This seems like a good deal, but the shop said that they think that the frame is damaged, as well as all the suspension stuff and body work. Since I can get my mods back, I think that I will take the settlement and find a new Tacoma or Tundra and start anew. I was already looking at upgrading to a tundra for more space when I commission into the Air Force next May and move to Pensacola FL for Combat Systems Officer training. I don't really like the idea of a restored salvage title, as it will murder the resale value later on. I need a vehicle now for school, and it will take a month+ for the shop to fix everything, as well as most of the insurance payout.

What do you guys think? I am incredibly mad at myself and sad right now, but I kind of want to move on.

you need to have another adjuster come out and look at it. If you need to take it to a shop prior so it can be put on a lift and poked around on a bit more, I would make it happen.. I almost guarantee they will find its just a couple suspension components at most.. and a fender + flare.

I will see. I am still going to negotiate more of a settlement as all three vehicles they used to base the value off of are in other states. Like I said, I was already in the mindset of looking for another truck, but we will see.

It sounds like you have mentally moved on already. If it would wind up being salvage you are right that its not worth it unless there is serious sentimental value or something personal about the truck. If thats the case, dont waste your time with anything other than fighting to get the max value for your truck, removing your mods to sell them and start shopping for a new truck.

That is my plan. I do have a little sentimental value in the truck, my soon to be fiancé and I had our first kiss in it, but I have moved on. There is actually an almost identical 2015 Tacoma on FB marketplace rn, except it has the manual transmission I have always wanted and only 84,000 miles. I might end up with that, or one of a few tundras I am looking at.

Any tips for how to convince them I should get more for the truck? I was planning on asking them to find me trucks in the state, with the TRD Off Road package, and showing them that all the ones are more expensive.

Yeah, try to find ones in AZ/NM/CA. Tacos are definitely more valuable in the southwest than other parts of the country.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
You're on the right track here, but the bottom line is going to be that you're going to need to put in effort and not take their first answer and run with it.

Remember that this is what they do for their 9-5, and they're counting on you not wanting to do this in addition to your 9-5, when you're already clearly dealing with some emotion and inconvenience of the whole situation in the first place.

But if you let them ride it out the way that they want to, they're going to bend you over either way. If you want to maximize what you can get out of it, get under it and pull some of your money off of the truck, or get someone you trust to do it. Admittedly, from the sounds of it, you could probably get away with repairing the truck, selling it off to someone here in AZTW, and you can still end up with that equivalent M/T that you're eyeing - but you're going to be giving up a bunch of time if you do that.

This. You're just going to need to decide how much money is your time worth, and react accordingly.

Easy and fast isn't cheap (for you). Cheap isn't going to be easy or fast.

I don't know if I do have the time for that. Being a full time student, AFROTC cadet, and working a job requires I need a vehicle now. I will try to get as much as I can for it, but I don't think waiting for/doing repairs myself id feasible right now.

Yup I bought a few parts to experiment with, a sprinco blue, an entire buffer swap to the A5 system, and a bootleg adjustable bolt carrier. Between being able to tune out the gas and the buffer weights I should be able to get it running like a dream.
There's also Black river tactical's gas tubes that they drill to a certain port size to effectively close off your barrel port size.

Dude, A2s are sweet. They're so smooth shooting and the 20" barrel gets you a nice bump in velocity.

On top of that the only thing you really have to mess with is the trigger. Everything else is just plain left as Eugene stoner designed it so you don't need brakes and gas tuning and feed ramps and heavier buffers.

Mounting any kind of optic is a ball buster but most people need to learn how to use irons anyways.

UCA bolt is definitely still bolted in place. Spindle is bent, UCA and LCA could potentially be bent and its hard to verify this without alignment or comparing to known good parts. UCA and LCA mounts could possibly be bent, frame could possibly be bent. Swaybar endlink is bent, swaybar is possibly bent as well. Halfshaft could be toast. Steering rack could have sustained damage. Shit ads up very quickly and insurance companies arent stupid.

*I know this is the opposite of what I said earlier in the thread

FL sounds like fun. I've considered moving there and still might. Nothing wrong with wanting a fresh start. A newer vehicle would be a nice upgrade.

Sounds like you should just move on. You have enough going that will last a lifetime and those activities probably require more attention than the truck. Shit happens caused by us or by others.

Good luck with the Air Force. :oldglory:
