Consolidated Super White 040 Paint Issue/Failure Thread - With Toyota Corp. Update

Got my letter. Baja truck showing zero signs of flaking paint.

 

I picked up the truck today. They just painted the damaged areas but it looks really good...I'm happy with the process and thank you to Toyota for stepping up!

This problem with white paint seems to be pervasive.
I see it on Tacomas, Chevys and Dodges.

If they only paint the affected areas, this tells me the non-painted areas will eventually flake off.
A true bummer.

I’m glad to see Toyota is finally stepping up. I haven’t gotten my official letter yet but I just moved in the last few months so that could be why. If I don’t get anything in the next 2 weeks I will give the local dealers a call. The closest dealership doesn’t have the best reputation so we will see what they say.

In other news, my bed started peeling a couple days ago

 

Mine started doing that a few months ago and it’s spread across that whole flat area. Waiting to see if it continues over the edge down the side of the bed.

 

My bed started that about 6 months ago.

 

I just got my letter and called the dealership to start the process. when you say they just painted the damage areas, did they actually remove paint from the whole door and repaint only that door for example?

 

Yes. They gave a Ram 1500 through hertz.

Mine has been in the shop since the 11th and I was told by the body shop they are stripping all four doors and both front fenders.

 

Got my truck back from the dealer in Bryan, TX. Paint around the rear windows and under the hood seam has been repaired. Very pleased with this

For those who got fresh paint, did they replace your fender flares as well? 303 can only do so much 8 years under SoCal sun, and I’m wondering if they’ll only replace the front ones. Thanks!

 

Have my second letter in hand.
Will be hitting the dealer body shop after work sometime this week.
My roof also looks like absolute SHIT!!

Anyone else dealing with that?

 

Along these same lines, I’m curious if they replace any PPF film on the truck (thinking on door edges for example). I’m not sure I’d want it again because they hold so much dirt but the film has saved quite a few door dings

 

They painting the whole truck or just areas affected? What is the turn around time they told ya?

 

Mine is flaking on the roof where the front shield meets the top. Under the hood itself where you peek thru the wiper sprayer. Front hood near the headlights. Both inner fender. All 4 doors. The socal sun beat mine up pretty bad. Anyone have better experience with Riverside, Ontario, or Corona Toyota?

 

I was told just the 4 doors and 2 front fenders. But I just noticed peeling on the underside of the hood. So hopefully I can convince them to paint that also. Mine goes in on the 11th of November and rental covered.

 

Going to assume they’ll have to give you new fender flares as well? The mounting points get pretty chewed up when taking it off the fender.
