Nissan in Trouble, Again

With a 99% decline in global profits, it sounds like Nissan is in serious financial trouble, again. But if you really want to pursue a Frontier, the next 10 days might be very advantageous.

This is not a shock to me. They are the "Chrysler/Dodge" of the Asian car manufacturers. I've owned three of their products & my wife owned one - they were all disappointments from a quality parts & quality build point of view.

It's sad, really. At one time Datsun (Nissan) was a well regarded manufacturer. No longer. Their CVT trannies are a disaster. That's just part of the problem.

Once word gets out your product sucks & you don't do anything to make customers "whole" again, you are on the rapid descent to bankruptcy. I wonder if Japan will bail them out like the U.S. has done w/Chrysler-GM-Ford? Better to let these companies fail. Any assets of value will get bought up by competitors & consumers will have the privilege of shopping elsewhere to get a bad car or truck

 

Ford didn't take a bailout, did they? No reason to lump them in with GM/Chrysler. Maybe I wasn't paying attention when they did.

 

I had a Frontier as a rental once maybe 5 years ago and it was hands down the most uncomfortable vehicle I’ve ever driven.

The new ones look pretty nice and it seems like they revamped them well, but I’ve never driven one.

 

Way back in '83, I bought a new 4X4 King Cab Datsun/Nissan pickup, and I had nothing but problems from day one (almost too numerous to list). That was the year they switched away from the Datsun badge, my truck had both on the tailgate. The worst issue was with the 5-speed manual tranny, it was rebuilt several times but never would hold up to even light use. In '91 I switched to Toyota and never looked back.

 

No, Ford sold off assets in order to stave off bankruptcy. Jaquar and Rover come to mind, but there are others. I think that they also closed their Australian operations.

 

Had plenty of great Datsuns/Nissans but that was back in the day when they were Japanese owned. Once Ghosn got his grubs into Nissan, it was the end of them, it's just taking awhile for the corpse to quit kicking and bleeding out.

[720s, Xterra,s z turbos, 280z,s and so on, they really did make some decent rides back in the day. [the strawberry milkshake was a real thing though, they really dropped the ball on that mess]

I'll make yota fans gasp but the NapZ 4 banger was BETTER then the 22R was.

 

3-month old news twisted into a clickbait Youtube video. Nissan last reported quarterly financials in July. Operating income was 1 billion yen and that was a 99% drop from the same quarter in 2023. Net income however was 29 billion yen. You think the parasite YouTuber knows the difference?

 

Definitely not that, that's one of their biggest International money makers

 

Used to sell Nissans like 25 years ago they were always ok but Toyota was always the better choice if you could spend more.
Had the 2003 frontier crewcab extended bed with the 4cyl. Loved the truck and ride but bed was too long and way underpowered back then. Couple years later they redesigned it and put the 6cyl which made a huge difference. The newer Toyota most closely reminds me of it in style and ride but with seemingly better quality. I looked at the newer Nissan just personally not liking the style inside or out although the power is nice. How dependable they are is another question

The frontier is still a solid truck, but boy is Nissan a stinker otherwise. Dealers are crappy too

 

Had a 2000 2WD 4 banger which was dependable, but I live where it is snowy. Made it to 212K but got tired of putting on chains. Got a 2006 NISMO which was OK to 150K when the trans took the coolant dump. Replaced the tranny (not in a position to get another vehicle). Started going bad at 175K on multiple fronts in 2023.

Fortunately I found a 2013 Taco in minty shape and have been living good since.

 

Cannot comment on recent models, but during the cash for clunkers program in 2009 I bought a Nissan Cube for the Mrs. Traded in a 15 year old Eldorado with 180k that wasn't worth the $4k of the rebate at the time. Has all the aerodynamic qualities of brick and still gets 30+ mpg. Been a darn good little car. Right at 107k miles now. On third set of tries and 3rd battery. Regular oil, brake fluid and filter changes. Had to repair exhaust pipe twice where it exits the muffler. I just keep clamping it back together.

Other than one keyless start issue within the first 2 years (faulty module), it's been 100% reliable.

 

Maui Toyota rented me a brand new Frontier to drive while they replaced the frame on my 2008 Tacoma.
I couldn't wait to get rid of it and get my truck back.... eeeeww

 

What engine in your taco?

 

I almost took a job at infinity 5 years ago, I was talked out of it, and expected them to fold. They are still going somehow.

Nissan is a terrible product, they made great trucks and sports cars, but Renault and the CVT era really made them take a back seat.

Lack of innovation and excitement make them a 3rd rate manufacturer now.

 

My dad had a 1980 310GX..commuter car, couldn't fit mice in the back seat. When my sister and I are 7 and 10 yrs old and bitch about no leg room..nuff said, though most of the time it was his daily to work car only. Ran to almost 200K, I want to say it needed a head gasket at some point. I had a 81 280ZX that was a rot pile when I got it (my 17 old stupidity for not looking underneath) but a fun summer car.

Nailed it re the stance of FU customer..the reason I will not buy another GM vehicle. The US should have let those compaines you mentioned stand or fall in my book.

I had a 2019 or 2020 Frontier DCSB for 2 months while my frame was getting done. I'd consider it if I was in the market but an access or regular cab, DC is more than I'll ever use. I didn't mind the V6 but took a little getting used to at first.

 

Had a '93 Maxima. It was pretty nice sedan and a notch above Camry/Accord. Around the same time my friend had a Sentra SE-R which was an awesome cheap car with a great engine. Nissans of that era were good competitive cars built by people that cared. Also had a 2013 Leaf and it was a cheap car with an expensive drivetrain, but overall decent. During its only trip to the dealer I had a loaner Frontier which is the whole reason I decided a crew cab mid size truck would work for me. Some of their newer stuff I've driven has been crap. And every time I see a police chase video why is it always an Altima or a Dodge product that's running from the cops?

 

Forgot to add, their international products have always looked better. Like the Patrol (Infiniti qx80), Navara (truck), and Terrano (pathfinder). Those would sell well. And they also discontinued the Xterra just as the SUV / overlanding craze started taking off.
