What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Haven't decided yet. Originally was going to do the gas/water can but I don't see myself needing them. I was thinking of maybe a spare jack for when I go on long drive up north. If you have any ideas, I'd like to hear them.

 

New rubber before winter. My Falken Wildpeaks in 245/75R17 (P-rated) ended up with 4-5/32" under 30,000mi with rotations... I had heard that the P wildpeaks wore fast, but after such good experiences with the Es on my 1500, I went AT3w out of loyalty. When people say that the Ps wear fast, it's true. The truck has a topper and a bambed, but is otherwise empty. Front alu trans skid and cat-guards... That's it! It's not heavy!

This time around I went with the Nokian Outpost nAT in 255/75R17. Snow performance is high on my list for wants out of an all-terrain, so I am cautiously optimistic given Nokians pedigree. Low(ish) road noise, traction on beat up forest roads, and durability come as other priorities. I only have 20 miles on them, but they balanced well. They definitely have a higher pitched hum to them, but I think it will die down as they wear in a little bit. Overall they are quieter than my wildpeaks which were starting to cup on the outside edge, but it's obviously way to soon to tell.

I am also dealing with disintegrated wiring loom. What exactly did you end up using as replacement?

 

They definitely wear fast. I got 36k out of a set a while back and Americas tire knocked a little over $80 off the price if I bought another set. If it wasn’t for the fact that they actually work really well on wet roads I would’ve never done it.

 

I wasn't worn enough to take advantage of the discount/falkens tread wear warranty. But I also wasn't going to make it through winter with them... At the end of the day I just needed to replace.

On top of that my local Discount tried to upsell me disingenuously last time I needed their help, so I took my business elsewhere anyways.

 

New Bedsides, new beadlocks and 35's

 

Washed a recent dust storm out of my reusable air filter. This thing has saved me a lot of money on air filters.

 

Installed 2023 TRD Sport Bilstein shocks and struts.

I installed a 5 gallon air tank that is fed by my under hood ARB compressor. It works great!

 

Thanks! I've always liked detailing. Easy to keep it that way by cleaning the diff, exhaust and under the fenders at every wash.

 

Did you get any lift out of it?

 

They sure are! offroaded every weekend for a year and a half plus flipping the truck multiple times definitely contributed. My rear C frame is pretty wavy which is why i am going to straighten it all out and box it and replace the flimsy crossmembers with some tube steel and round tube.

Im going to utilize a fire retardant/high heat braided split loom in some areas and then going to pull the pins out on the smaller things and redo those with the same type of braided loom but not split and terminate with heatshrink. I need a couple of hours to get it all done but have all materials ready to go.

Nice, hopefully that boxing fixes everything and stiffens the rear of the truck out. Sounds like you wheel hard, maybe you should just back half it lol.

Ahh gotcha. I was wondering how you were gonna get the braided loom on the wires. De pinning everything is a little much for me right now, it’s still a daily driver. Easy to do when making your own harnesses but not as much when the oem harness is already in place. I’ll probably just stick to high quality split loom for my truck.

I thought about it and at that point a whole cage and multi link are not far behind haha. Im gonna keep it relatively simple on this build. just burn some extra steel on and chevy swap.

Yeah I thought about depinning everything but im not that ocd. the only harness/connectors I will de-pin is the injectors and ignition coils so that it looks cleaner with a continuous and not split loom.

 

I just did mine yesterday with the same kit. They came out good as new, we’ll see how long it lasts. I’m thrilled with the results! I’ve been using NOVUS and a headlight coating for the last few years, but they never looked this good.
